i really hate to suggest this but??? carpet ban???

in the flood there is a user that is posting the leaks of halo 4 in the title and then bragging he is spoiling it. for the people that are posting to it can there be a carpet ban in place for it? my reason for asking this is because it it posting to spam and with each bump it is allowing people that dont want to see this stuff at that top of the forum. i know some people are posting legit stuff in it but they know they shouldnt be. does this seem fair to everyone? this isnt ment to stop people from making the threads, this is to prevent people from bumping the threads. for an example. if you look in this forum you will see an act of what i am talking about we have users that are posting in a thread that the OP has been banned in. you cant see whats in the OP so what is the point of posting about it? you are only drawing attention so that it stay at the top of the forums so people are continuing to see it. OK NOW THAT THE CARPET BANS ARE IN. do you agree that this was the correct thing to do? what are your reasons and why do you have these reasons? yorkie [Edited on 10.14.2012 4:28 PM PDT]

 • Also, I can understand a mod's not wanting to carpet ban, but, assuming they have the proper authority (I don't know the specific differences between vanilla and master), deleting a post is just a click of a button. I also understand the not wanting to set a precedent of "we'll just clean up your mess", but at the same time if you're not going to carpet ban at least delete posts of people who've also spoiled within a thread. (If you've already been doing this, my apologies.)

 • I'd be angry too if I was a mod who was forced to spoil the game to do my community service. It really sucks but it's something we have to live with.

 • The Flood has angered the Mods! I'm staying off of there for a while, I posted in a thread that got immediately locked afterwards.

 •
Posted by: T1d3 that is it mods, i am calling you guys out. I don't care what happens. You have done a -blam!- horrible job at damage control. Locking the thread and banning the user is not enough when the spoiler is the the title. You guys need to step the -blam!- up. I am disappointed in your lack of control. there is nothing you can do about the user names, but you can sure as hell change the title of the thread
Bro. Mods aren't always on, and this situation will never be handled completely anyways. Calm the -blam!- down. I can attest that no usernames have been real spoilers.

 •
Posted by: Rad Forman its the principle. mods should at least warn people that their going to do a carpet ban
Carpet bans are a controversial topic, and they do take more time to carry out than just banning and lock the OP and warning everyone else. But I think there are very obvious cases where they should be permitted, and this is one of them IMO. There was a blatantly obvious warning at the top of the forum about leaks not being permitted (well, maybe not so obvious in its title until you click it). Then there is the fact it's mentioned in the rules that people are supposed to read when they sign up. I'm not saying I'm the goody two-shoes who doesn't break a rule here or there, but if there's one thing I know it's to not bump a bad thread to the top of the forum. There is just no reason to. If you're the first reply and there is something hidden in the OP, make your warning and then leave. It's the rest of the poster's responsibility to report the thread and not post in it. We'd see more mature behavior like this if the account creation process was more thorough. Optimatch didn't have nearly as much problems because it required a linked tag. • So many locks . . . If there is a carpet ban, I just hope I don't get caught in the mix of it.

 • I think that making a thread in response to spam attacks should warrant a ban. Because nobody's going to go, "Oh, wait... don't reply? Y'know... that's a pretty novel idea. I'm going to go ahead and... what'd you say... not reply? Is that what it's called? I'll try that out."
If you post in a rule breaking thread you're keeping it on top of the forum for everyone to see. There's no reason that thread should have been preserved that long. It just stayed up longer to spoil it for more people. Such a shame posters don't understand this.
Some bastards already spoiled H4 for me. But I stayed away from posting in those damn threads. These idiots who were bumping the thread should have realised that they were enhancing the progression of the thread.
