QoSing/ToSing your ps3/360 a good idea?

I might QoS/ToS, ppOE and DMZ my xbox and ps3 to maximize their network performance would doing QoS and DMZ at the same time be a good idea? Is QoS a good idea at all?

 • Well...I did some research, and these people say that QoS is a good idea, and tons of people say that DMZ is a good idea if you're having NAT, but i can't see anything about doing both at the same time. Hmm.. good luck OP. [Edited on 10.10.2012 9:49 PM PDT]

 • i'm doing it all. DMZ/QOS/PPPOE/STATIC IP, nobody can ever blame my internet connection or lag for their defeat ever again. [Edited on 10.10.2012 9:56 PM PDT]

 • I think Quality of Service is useless if you make your console a DMZ, and last time I checked you can only have one of those (you can't make your 360 and PS3 one). Anyway, when I was playing xbox I made it my network's DMZ - NAT problems were fixed, but other than that it didn't "boost" my connection. Playing with people over continents isn't ideal, there'll always be "lag". There's nothing you can do OP, unless...yes, that might just work. OP, invent faster than light data transfer! • Don't do DMZ. It will destroy your connection. At least it destroyed mine. If you want to optimize your xbox connection forward these ports.
I was under the assumption that the only thing DMZ did was automatically open up the ports your game console requires, fixing your NAT, and QoS prioritised your device in the networking queue, so that if you have multiple devices accessing the internet, your ps3/360 has priority. they are two different things. i've decided against pppoe for now, though. I've also went ahead and lowered my wireless fragmentation/RTS thresholds and beacon intervals as that's supposed to do you a lot of good. [Edited on 10.10.2012 10:14 PM PDT]

 • Oh my god...this was the best decision I ever made. Dark Souls: I summon people and they nearly instantly join my game. Summons and invasions never fail. Connections are fast. Lag eliminated Halo Reach: Matchmaking could not be faster. I can find a game nearly instantly now. No more NAT problems. Ever. No more lag when i'm the host. ...Everyone should do this.

 • I didn't encounter any lag and my router is pretty much running off default settings except for WPA2 of course.

 • Now EVERYONE can be cool like me! Step 1: Open commmand prompt (Start-->Run--->cmd.exe, or just type cmd.exe in windows 7 start menu) Step 2: in command prompt, type "ipconfig" Step 3: Look at your default gateway, it should be something like 192.168.1.1 Step 4: Open your internet browser and put your default gateway (192.168.1.1 for example) into the address bar, hit enter Step 5: You can now log in to your router. Provide the username and password to your router (the default is usually "admin" unless someone in your family changed it. Google your router's defrault password if you aren't sure) Step 6: You are now configuring your router. Goto game settings. You'll see the options for DMZ and QOS here. DMZ the ip address your xbox or ps3 uses. If you aren't sure, it's listed under System Settings on ps3, and on xbox it should be in internet settings somewhere Step 7: Just put your xbox or ps3's ip address in the DMZ box and enable it, then save. Your xbox/ps3 is now DMZ'ed Step 8: QoSing is a bit more advanced. Your xbox and ps3 also has a "MAC ADDRESS" listed in system settings somewhere. Find it. Goto your router's QoS page, put in your ps3 or xbox mac address. Set priority to high. Enable Wireless QoS (WMM) if you want. You're done. Enjoy the high road. High speed gaming~ [Edited on 10.11.2012 1:56 AM PDT]

 • To reduce ping if you have a high signal to noise ratio on your line you could ask your isp to disable interleaving.
