What do you think is the most significant battle in history? It doesn't have to be set in fact in a history book, this is about your opinion and no one elses.
Alternatively if you don't have an idea of the most significant, what is your favorite battle to study if you have any?
I cant put it down to a single battle, so in my opinion the Eastern Front during World War 2 was the most significant.
Posted by: Spartan1995324 The War of 1812. Had America won they would have been the largest country on Earth with the most natural resources. They would have become the next British Empire and changed a lot of things throughout history. Like not losing Vietnam, lol. But seriously, things would have been so different. Of course by 2012, I don't think the "American Empire" would still be intact. Anyways you can thank England and Canada for helping to prevent it.
I saw this on the front page, reading through the rest to hope no one took the bait. OT: I would say (more modern battles) Stalingrad (don't know many battles though). [Edited on 10.02.2012 4:59 PM PDT]

Either the D-Day invasions, or Stalingrad.
-
The invasion of Anguar is the obvious choice.
-
Tours has been brought up a few times, good choices though.
Posted by: AngasBoy Stalingrad, Salamis and Plataea, Tours, (Suprised this hasn't been brought up, it stopped the Muslim invasion of the Frankish Empire and ensured that Spain was as far as they got.) 16th Century Siege of Vienna was pretty important. (Although the Ottomas mighn't have got much further, Vienna was easily the most important city in Germany at the time and losing it without retaking it soon after would have been a catastrophe for Europe.)
Posted by: TheUnbannable The Tet Offensive. that pretty much gave us a kick in the teeth after pulling out of Vietnam. We havent been the same since 'Nam
What? The Tet Offensive destroyed the NVA. American soldiers loved it because they could actually see and fight their enemy on their terms. But the news of the attacks made the public question how well we were doing even though we beat it back.

Haven't seen that one so far! Interesting.
Posted by: Apendix Nine The battle of Nedao, in which the crumbling west roman empire, led by the general Flavius Aëtius in an united effort with the Visigoths crushed the Huns, thus evicting them from europe. During the battle, king Ardaric of the Gepids (an barbarian tribe) slew Ellac, son of Atila the Hun, in single combat. I don't know if it's the most important battle ever, but in sure is hollywood-worthy.

Posted by: AJ7188 Stalingrad, Battle of the Bulge, Invasion of Normandy. Nuff said...
Germany already lost the Africa front by Stalingrad. Battle of the Bulge was hopeless. And the Germans were getting assraped on the East by Normandy. Not so much.
