O'Connor confirms that Halo series on PC isn't finished

The news is almost one-year-old, but I felt I had to share this with you. Go to 28:57 [Edited on 07.10.2012 3:40 AM PDT]

 • I doubt it is going to happen. Micro$haft just loves to force everyone to buy a console to get a game. If it does happen, they better learn how to properly port a game or else I am leading a one man assault with a keyboard upon 343's offices.

 •
Did you link the wrong video?
What do you mean? I don't understand you. This is what Frank O'Connor said at the conference at 28:57. Then, it's up to him to keep his word or not. [Edited on 07.10.2012 1:04 PM PDT]
I'm suggesting that perhaps we watched different videos since the one I saw had Frankie doing some verbal hand waving. The only time you should listen to their answers is when they clearly state 'yes' or 'no'. Anything else tends to be question dodging and/or excuses. [Edited on 07.10.2012 1:06 PM PDT]

 • Wow... You're really jumping to conclusions, sir. I mean, really jumping to conclusions. First off, they were talking about modding in general. They weren't talking about PC gaming. You could say "Well modding isn't a console thing." but it could be if 343 could convince them somehow. He even said "... from the backend of Waypoint". Second, even if he was talking about bringing existing Halos to the PC, he said those talks were happening. Saying they're talking about it is no where near confirmation they're developing something. That would mean they're at least talking about the possibility. Take a hint from Office Space. [Edited on 07.10.2012 1:07 PM PDT]

 • Damn, DAMN!! I'm not an english native speaker and I don't know how the hell I could confuse the spelling of "conversations" with "conversions". I though he was making some promises about the PC ports which were happening, no the talks. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to deceive you.

 •
Posted by: NeverStop91 At least we can say that they are discussing about it. :sarcasm:
There was nothing there suggesting they're discussing bringing Halo games to the PC. He was suggesting that they were discussing ways they might be able to connect with the modding community. That could mean creating modding tools for a Halo game on the Xbox. • If you listen closely to his answer, you'll hear he's speaking specifically about the Halo PC community. Quote: "To be super honest to everyone in the audience, you know, Halo is primarily A CONSOLE GAME at this point in it's life span, and that's the definitely the direction that we are heading BUT we have had conversation internally about ways that we can open up existing products to the community and do more with that community." In other words referring to Halo games that are not on A CONSOLE. • I did get that but I feel as though him saying that could be him simply mentioning how modding isn't really a console thing. That they're talking about the possibly opening things up for them. My point I'm trying to make is this in no way confirms there are new projects in development. That this is an example of people jumping to conclusions. In fact, this is more like leaping to conclusions. I do remember the Corrinne Yu thing. In fact, I was just talking to Bt about it on Steam. I even talked about it while that panel was being livestreamed. There's definitely a possibility there's something happening but this by far does not confirm anything. An engine includes the graphics, the networking, the physics, the sound, input handing and so on. If you strip the engine out, you no longer have a game but rather a bunch of assets with no way to make any real use of them. It'd be more of a case of Halo 4 having a Halo CE mod than Halo CE having the Halo 4 engine. [Edited on 07.10.2012 8:09 PM PDT]

Reach modding tool Liberty is a godsend to me. Now imagine being able to adjust the AI's intelligence. That'd be glorious!

 • I wouldn't get my hopes up considering they are well behind in the series with bringing PC ports. After H2V flopped it seems they kind of just dropped the PC platform.

While I think it might be likely, I'd rather sit here and default to "Microsoft hates us and will never throw us a bone. They haven't for what is almost 10 years now so I'm done with having hope."

 • Yeah, I don't think so. Think about it this way. Halo 1 was only on the PC because it was new and Bungie/Microsoft were trying to capture a good fanbase for the game. They had to pay for extra servers for CE on PC (though population had mostly countered loss of profit), Xbox was pure profit. Halo 2 comes along, except there was no PC version on release day. Microsoft gets a ton of revenue off of H2's popularity on Xbox Live, and Halo soars into the sky of popularity. The once sizable PC community obviously shows protest and anger. In hopes of feeding off this existing fanbase, they release a poorly made port of Halo 2 for PC, that ended up being a huge, utter failure and disappointment to fans. Halo's mainstream PC fanbase scatters, and with Xbox Live becoming very popular and having a huge game series under their nose, I believe M$ ditched the PC community. Permanently. They would announce if they had a PC version H4. And they don't. Sorry to say it, but the PC community was really just taken advantage of until Halo got off its feet, and Microsoft realized how inexpensive and simple simply selling it on their own console would be. And if your best counter is that O'Conner said something dodgy and misguided a YEAR ago, then you know that's wrong too.
