Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 -Yeah -Its OK. I'm too cheap to buy a cheap one. -Thats a lot of inspiration. I just don't see how people find so many ORIGINAL things. To my disappointment it was never put into the games that needed it most.(Reach, maybe Halo 3.)
It was a good skull. Yeah maybe. I happen to like how Reach Elites can succumb like CE Elites. It's much more satisfying compared to H2/H3 AI, which are hard as hell to stealth kill. Black Eye + Sputnik isn't necessarily stealth and neither is the third tower Brute assassinations (that's a rare and unique moment). -H2/H3 style? It's possible to skip Shafted without going through the window if you clip through the ceiling or wall instead of the door. -True. Yep. -Yes. Don't forget about how Ultras wear helmets. Reach Thunderstorm < H2 Thunderstorm since it makes Grunts less fun to fight. There's too much emphasis on difficulty. Why can't we select which enemies (Elites, Grunts, Jackals) we want to rank up? IMO, H3 Grunts are also ugly. But they are somehow cute. And the skin color of their face isn't as wretched as Reach Grunts. As for H4 Grunts, I like their face (reptile eyes. I've always had a thing for those) but dat ass (on the H4 toy) and how they barely have armor on the front is a turn off. In-game, they looked ok (it's somewhat cute when the Elite whacks the Grunt). I just hope 343 have restored CE animations. CE Grunts tried to get grenades and needle shards off of them and had the best waiting/idle animations. Their landing animation was also hilarious. -the Scarab gun is quite epic. H3's counterpart has to be Arbiter (at least the way I used him). -no doubt -don't forget about the mini-Elite

-Yep, clipping. Warthog clipping. But not the way you do it, I found a spot where you can gather 2 hogs and huddle them against each other. After a little positioning, getting out of the driver's seat throws you over the overshield on the last level of the SC, and skips the "Shafted" checkpoint that loads up the entire first round of enemies. There are about 8 hunters on SC, and you won't have to fight one. -I stumbled upon it by accident too. Then again, that's how a lot of things are discovered. -Again, I should have posted it somewhere or maybe taken screenshots. (I know I have the film somewhere.) Besides, you have had collections much cooler than grunts (you have to admit they look pretty cute huddled together though.) What I hate about future grunts (Reach and now 4) is they look uglier and less "cute" than they did before. - I just spend a lot of time in Metropolis is all. I find Scarab Guns are an entertaining way to destroy things. - Thanks, it was a lot of work. -Could be. However, if you shoot the AR in the safety it does bleed out. The AR still bleeds if you grenade it somewhere else as well. You could right though. A group of glitchers spawned the hidden banshee's in the Package, and used them to take a falcon as it shrunk. It was pretty funny, as one was permanently shrunken the rest of the level.

-Ok -Ok -Indeed. That Pelican to Pelican launch in Reach is apparently a pain in the ass. It would seem Noble Six lacks traction... given his sluggish nature, I'm not surprised. And you're not the only one that's felt like that. I've seen some tricks that make my work look like Oreo filling. The tricks are on top and bottom, they completely overshadow mine. Not necessarily a bad thing since it's the inside that counts anyway. :P -I've prepare a lot of playlists if you or anyone else are interested. -Phase as in clipping? -not bad. I never find that kind of easter egg. I missed the Iron skull on CEA, the emoticons on the keyboard, etc. -if it's true, then you can take credit for it -I was never good at exploration either -the Gravemind marine collection is quite a feat, especially on Legendary -I'm pretty sure a mini-pilot's inside the cockpit rather than it being operated by a living AR. On the other hand, we've seen that before on 343 Guilty Spark. Floating ARs, creepy stuff... [Edited on 07.11.2012 12:23 AM PDT]

Often I get mad and frustrated. I ended up closing my own channel, forgetting to backup some of my personal favorites (marine speared by Covie bomb/pickle on Cairo). I also lost some of my best H3 game saves (i.e. the marine, Elite, Brute collection). I stopped playing H3 because I didn't want to lose the remaining things I had.
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 -...Possibly.
Hmm...
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 -Yah, AI no longer care about each other or even themselves now. A once saw a skirmisher skillfully ricochet an NR round into his own face. He must have realized he was in Halo Reach. -I think Bungie tried to make driving more adaptive than scripted. Good concept, but poor execution. I wish they would have just stuck with purely scripted driving, so I can go crazy with the Guass again. -I can only imagine that in Reach..."Quick, everyone stop, lets all be friends for about 10 minutes to kill this unsuspecting player in mass!"
I saw a Skirmisher do that too, in a YT vid. I'm pretty sure it's because the needle rifle would cause the wielder to dive if he considered it. It happens in CE when you try to make the needler shards recognized as grenades (enemies consider it and dive from it even if they're the ones firing it). Nonetheless, with explosive weapons, it is just cheap that the AI can get away with that with little damage. Friendly fire dmg is also toned down to minimize accidental deaths. Strict scripting could turn out better but then it'd be a pain in the ass chasing the vehicle. In H2 Outskirts, when you're in the tunnel, the hog that spawns will drive off without you unless you intercept it quickly. I'm not sure if shooting will help stop it. There's also the gauss hog the sergeant's driving. Often he'll crash into you taking your shield out. Of course, with better handling, I'm sure this kind of thing can be avoided. I wish Halo AI could just prioritize better. Even in CE, it's amazing to see AI focus on me, disregarding an even bigger threat that's right behind them.
Posted by: Sliding Ghost
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 Hey Ghost, I'm back with 2 extra zeros to my name. Because 0's are cool?
Hmm... there's another reason isn't there?
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 -Yeah, its really too bad nothing can be done with them.
Yes.
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 - Recent studies show Halo Reach marines are flood in disguise, no?
The willingness to fire up close also extends to the Covenant. I've seen a Brute captain fire his concussion rifle when a Grunt was in the way. Harsh... And an Elite general spam his fuel rod gun even hitting himself by accident a couple of times. It's really annoying to see them not being punished for that (taking full damage) whereas I throw a grenade when my shield's barely damaged and die. Also, I really do miss it when enemies could damage their allies. Collateral damage. It was pretty funny to see in CE Hunters send Grunts flying around. Instead, we get stupid Brutes meleeing plasma batteries and sticking each other. That's not funny. It's just sad.
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 -Hog physics rarely came into play. Pure unawareness did on part of the universal driving AI.
Yeah I noticed that yesterday & today. I played nearly all Reach missions on Legendary. I raged at least 45 times. When it came to Exodus, it was torture having to use the same tactic all the time. Then I screwed up and had to start all over again. 50 minutes in vain! So I modded. With ONI Sword Base, as soon as I entered the vehicle section, again, modding. I used to mod in H3 but only because I wanted to get the setup done faster. I could find all sorts of strategies to make most parts a breeze. Such as: -getting assassinations on all of the Brutes in the Crow's Nest bomb room -getting assassinations on all of the Brutes in the third tower Noob combo was put away most of the time. But in Reach, it's all I can use (actually, I don't even have to use the overcharged bolt since the standard bolts are powerful) alongside hologram, needle rifle, needler (on Brutes), power weapons, Noble Team, etc.
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 - I did it on legendary. One time, and there was dieing and reverting to last save-ing. Much of it. I found enough bottle necks in each section to block with whatever I could find. Some sections-like the Hunter encounter, took some creativity. I relished every moment Elites and Brutes had to fight, so I didn't have to. I stocked my marines Beam Rifles (Beam rifle spam is surprisingly effective in a pinch) and carbines. I remember I was about to hit a checkpoint and a marine simply hurled himself off a platform. There was no rhyme or reason to it. He just did, and I knew I had to start back to the last point. There was much rage-quitting.
Yeah it is a pain to babysit marines. I see. Yep those are valuable times, in-fighting. If they were in Reach, oh boy, everyone would be focused on the player. With or without Angry skull? Was it at the part with the grav lift transportation or the hanging gardens? I've noticed bad pathfinding at those parts. If you got them to the end of the level, how did the battle go?
-...Possibly. -Yep -Yah, AI no longer care about each other or even themselves now. A once saw a skirmisher skillfully ricochet an NR round into his own face. He must have realized he was in Halo Reach. -I think Bungie tried to make driving more adaptive than scripted. Good concept, but poor execution.
Posted by: Multijirachi It is truly ridiculous, considering Reach was meant to be Bungie's "Swansong". Another odd thing, if you watch the ODST ViDocs, you see Joseph Staten explaining those small opening clips before every mission (Such as the start of ONI HQ, where you see Dutch hold up his Laser and look at the Wraiths with the HUD being displayed) as bringing the player into the character to make the experience more immersive. In Reach, I only witnessed three such occurrences (Winter, ONI and The Package) and these are much shorter and aren't even remotely immersive.
Don't forget about LNoS mission start. Anyways, I liked it better when we could instantly get into gameplay (CE, H2). First person cutscenes are just lame. They only worked in ODST because the human experience was new at the time. Reach tried to be like ODST when it could have shown Reach, instead of some team I've never heard about and never care for given their invincibility and incompetence. Bungie should have realized that we don't want friendly AI doing our work all the time in H3. Arbiter was a great partner and all but he's simply too effective and could be used mightily (and by that, I mean slay every enemy in the area). Instead of making us do solo most of the time like in ODST, Bungie gave us nerfed teammates. Carter told me to drop the lone wolf stuff yet throughout the Reach campaign I had to do nearly everything.
Posted by: Multijirachi The Noble AI doesn't even register you (At least Jun doesn't). I was playing Nightfall (The place where many of my glitches occur) and Jun (Being an idiot) shoots me in the chest, killing me.
The friendly AI should have regard for player proximity but they don't.
Posted by: Multijirachi On the matter of the BOB's, It is truly ridiculous. I stuck one with a sticky just as it vanished. Not only did it vanish with my sticky, it attempted to run away so no one would notice it disappearing. That is just pathetic in my opinion. I mean seriously, why make it run? Why make it disappear in the first place? It is just cheap in my opinion, a way to hide their attempts at deleting enemies.
I've noticed some Bobs fade out to camo but most of them just disappear instantly with no signal. I like how H4 Promethean Knight's teleporting can be anticipated. Teleporting with a sticky is as annoying as Ranged Forms absorbing grenades and armor lock shedding grenades. I'm glad H4 is restoring 4 grenades for campaign. I'm also glad that Promethean Watchers can be killed causing them to drop the grenade. Yeah, running away is pretty annoying. They have tough shields. They should be in the front lines. Leave the spec ops stuff to the Spec Ops Elites, like the one at the beginning of Winter Contingency. Agreed.
Posted by: Multijirachi And AI collections? I tried making one of Winter. I trapped Noble in the falcon (See the Falcon glitch on YouTube). I got about 10 extra enemies, but when I got to the area with those Marines that are trapped, the Marines died and guess who spawns in? Noble team! Their invincibility made them wreak havoc on my small collection, and the stragglers were killed by the Falcons.
AI collecting is just not worth it in this game. AI are too often territorial. This Nightfall collection is hardly an engaging battle. I turned on Thunderstorm so I could get Ultra Elites but Ultra Grunts just ruin the fun with their 2-3 headshot rule. Most of the Elites are territorial and ammo deficiency really makes this battle mind-numbingly slow. And you can forget about Legendary. A General, 4-5 Ranger Elites. It's too brutal. I found that it's better to just use Liberty (modding) to gather the AI and to move Jun. Yesterday, I had great fun with this task. The only hard part was finding the best coordinates. Want to see a vid of it?
Posted by: Multijirachi When compared to CE Legendary (Even CE easy), Reach uses pathetic tactics. Exodus? Let's not add a challenge, let's just spam suicide Grunts! Pillar of Autumn? Elites that evade your every shot and Grunts that use their weapons to deadly effectiveness by popping around corners and taking you by surprise. And let's not forget Exodus's "Hold out until the elevator arrives". Truth and Reconciliation hold until the elevator activates. Sure it has less enemies, but Exodus still gives you the upper hand, with the ability to camp with the Shotgun at the doors, a ton of grenades at your disposal, Civilians that can be used as distractions and Brute Captains with Hammers? Even more similar to these two missions is when you get to the top of the lift in CE you have to fight more Covenant. Sword Elites, Jackals etc. Once you get to the top of Exodus's lift, you get Rockets, Shotguns and a ton of Marines and ODST reinforcements against a ton of Concussion Rifle spamming Brutes, and a Hammer Chieftain. Even this scenario can be avoided, whereas CE forced you to kill every enemy.
That's a lot to reply to. I'll start with the Grunts. Giving them the ability to overcharge their plasma pistol could have been done in CE (in fact, some settings are already set) but it wasn't, because that was when Bungie had better people with them. Now it's all about difficulty.
Posted by: Multijirachi Reach makes me feel as Bungie was just tired of making Halo by this point, and just wanted to make a Halo game which looked flashy and modern. Even if this was the case, I don't believe they succeeded as the graphics and models were very cartoony and pasty when compared to Halo 3.
I doubt they even wanted to make a Halo game at all.
Posted by: Sliding Ghost
Posted by: Multijirachi On the topic of Reach deleting things, go do the Nightfall speedrun. it's small, but once you run past the refinery and through the riverbed there are two Moa in the distance. Take a few steps towards them and they delete just as the Phantom spawns. My answer: Reach can't handle a Phantom and two Moas at once. Oh, and Jun falls from the sky randomly. It's hard to see since he goes so fast, but he does. Then he teleports forward in less than a second.
What is up with these oversights Bungie? On TotS, after getting on the Falcon seat, AI and scenery items will disappear. He does? Wow! I miss the days (H3, ODST) when they used active camo effect to bring their invincible friendly AI to another place. Even H2 had a good transition (Co-op teleporting effect on Rtas Vadum on The Oracle when attempting to bring him onto the elevator). Then comes Reach, bringing invincible friendly AI through walls or from the heavens and making Bobs disappear in an instant; I like Bobs but it's really immersion breaking to see them disappear so fast without any transition. The Spec Ops Elite at the beginning of WC is more consistent in his disappearing act but wait! If he's killed, Noble Team doesn't notice. That is the problem with Reach. It places easter eggs right in the story.
It is truly ridiculous, considering Reach was meant to be Bungie's "Swansong". The Noble AI doesn't even register you (At least Jun doesn't). I was playing Nightfall (The place where many of my glitches occur) and Jun (Being an idiot) shoots me in the chest, killing me. On the matter of the BOB's, It is truly ridiculous. And AI collections? I tried making one of Winter. I trapped Noble in the falcon (See the Falcon glitch on YouTube). I got about 10 extra enemies, but when I got to the area with those Marines that are trapped, the Marines died and guess who spawns in? Noble team! Their invincibility made them wreak havoc on my small collection, and the stragglers were killed by the Falcons. When compared to CE Legendary (Even CE easy), Reach uses pathetic tactics. Exodus? Let's not add a challenge, let's just spam suicide Grunts! Pillar of Autumn?
Posted by: Dark Hunter21 -Most of the time rocket marines are my hog passengers. As long as don't get beside an enemy, I come out alive. And I've been aching for a good Guass fight since Metropolis.(Well, one without a scarab at least.) When I first got Reach, I got on my Guass Turret, really excited. The marine drove me off a cliff, or straight into a wraith all 15 times. Really disappointing.
Reach has really screwed up pathfinding. Firing a rocket up close is something Flood would do. Kamikaze is something a berserking Flood would do. Driving through danger is something Flood would do. Personally, I blame the hog physics but it may also be inherent AI stupidity. Yes, very disappointing.
Posted by: Dark Hunter21 -Of course I assisted them. I mean I could say: Get some BR ammo from a previous room, and expect them to last on their for at least 10 seconds.
In H2, without assistance, overwhelming enemy fire brings down marines. In CE, without assistance, plasma grenades, sword Elites, and Hunters. I've seen players keep all of their marines alive in the T&R boarding battle on Legendary but I haven't seen players keep all of their marines alive on Gravemind Legendary. Even with perma camo. The Hunter fight before Valley of Tears is probably the hardest obstacle. Of course, if you block the marines with elaborate supply case blockades throughout the mission, it allows them to last longer and allows you to fight the Hunters without worrying about marines. All it takes is dual-wielded Brute plasma rifle shots in the back.
