Why do you think The Rookie doesn't talk? Be creative.

Does he have PTVD caused by some horrifying experience in battle or even something involving family deaths? Or do you think he just prefers not to talk? If so, then why does he prefer not to talk? Anti-Social? Let's hear some possibilities. Be creative. [Edited on 08.29.2011 10:29 AM PDT]

 • If you ask me, being the new guy in the ODST squad and all, he would do anything the rest of the squad suggests. Which brings me to the beginning of the Campaign. After Romeo hits the crap out of the Rookie with his sniper and wakes him up, Dutch pushes him aside and tells him "Now is one of those times, where it pays to be the strong, silent type." And as I said before, the less experieced Rookie would do well to heed advice given from the older, more experienced Corporal of the squad. I guess thats one of the few things that kept him alive on his first ODST mission, not to mention spending most of the time in the city solo.

 • I think there may have been an incident in training or something where he might have been the only survivor. Maybe its part of his focus, he has a job to do, he's going to do it.

 • Maybe the rookie tripped during training and hit his mouth it was severely injured and he could not talk.

 • Once upon a time, there was a rookie called; The Rookie. He lived harmoniously with his squad until one day a -blam!- called Dare took over the squads control and sent them on a suicide mission. The Rookie, however did not want to die and said "-blam- you Dare", and dived for his drop pod. However, before he could dive, buck turned on a switch that stopped all drop pods from launching. The squad then (due to Dare) reluctantly tortured The Rookie which made him scream like a -blam-. This made Dare duck tape, staple, wire shut and pull of The Rookies mouth. Dare now initiated the final part of her plan. To brainwash the squad and replace their brains with ALs from a past video game called "Halo". The squad, infuriated, ran towards Dare at 1000-985=15MPH however before they could kick her -blam- she hit the control thingy, sending it into overload, and turning everyone in the galaxy into Halo Als, exept The Rookie, who forgot his past and uploaded got a 'Dumb'Al uploaded into his brain and Master Chef...oops I mean Master Chief who was saved by Cortana who reversed enjineered his sperm so he could be immortal, he could travel forward and back in time, and they could have a baby. The end (No privates were hurt in the making of this story exept for The Private)

 • The Rookie is really Gordon Freeman in an ODST suit, after all his trials in Half Life 1 and 2, Gordon Freeman struggled for work so to provide for his family, he took up auditions to star in the Halo franchise... Due to his popularity in Valve's game though, Bungie did not want law suits so they made him wear an ODST outfit to hide his face. [Edited on 07.09.2012 2:28 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Spartan841jose Without considering the fact that Bungie said they purposely did that so the player can "fill" Rookie's shoes, then I'd say he simply likes to be silent and out of everyone's way.
Yeah, we all know Bungie's reason. This is just a funny thread where people can be creative and come up with their own reason why he doesn't talk. If you're pickin' up what I'm layin' down.

 •
Posted by: DethBySword the other ODSTs switched his helmet for a sound proof one as a prank
lol, that'd be pretty funny. For some reason it reminds me of putting clear tape on the bottom of my teammates hockey skates.
