First! It's very nice to see one these types of articles once again now that the Beta craze is behind us.
-
Wow, that's a pretty nice read.
-
That was perty cool to read. The bit about the number of animators that work on a game was pretty surprising to me.
-
Only five animators? I'm no artist, but daaaaaaaammmn.
-
man thank you for this article! Im either thinking of taking game art or animation as a profession and this article just boosted my drive to get there. Thank you Bungie!
-
This is what I read. Blah blah blah blah How does a Brute hoist a boulder? blah blah blah. That's it, brutes confirmed for Reach!
-
Very nice article.
Posted by: MystkSnsOfBetty That's it, brutes confirmed for Reach!
They've more or less been indirectly confirmed several times since Febuary.

Big thanks for taking the time to do this :) God, i love this company.
-
Very nice, I myself love animation.

Nice read, thanks for posting stuff like this. Haha buggers *giggle* [Edited on 05.26.2010 2:45 PM PDT]

Pretty cool. Keep the juice flowing!

So this is the guy who did the animation for the Spartans? ... I like him. When I saw the Halo: Reach trailer, the first thing that came to my mind (and I realize this sounds like sucking up, but regardless, it's true) was how great the Spartans moved when going into the 'copter. I thought they looked just so fluid and bouncy. It was spectacular.

J. Cerilli, as in Canadian Cerilli?!

Good to see this kind of stuff returning. [Edited on 05.26.2010 3:00 PM PDT]

Cool story, urk.

Soooo much to incorporate into a game. What was striking my mind when I was reading that was the new addition to the game of Spartans falling a long distance and landing on one knee. It's cool to read this and be able to see the animations in progress. Mostly I am impressed with how smooth everything flows in Reach. You guys do your job well. I hope I can do something similar some day!
-
Cerilli = -blam!-
-
5 animators? Did you get anymore for reach? Sounds like they have a good time though. (Deadlines sound rough)

Interesting stuff, it's always nice to have some insight into the process of making video games.

I really enjoy articles like this. I'm always interested in seeing what all the artists have to do to create a game. You guys have done such an amazing job with the animations of the Elites, for example compared to the stiffness I see going back to Halo 3. The animation always felt awkward watching them strafe but in Halo: Reach they move so elegantly and smooth. So fluid. It is very impressive. Same with the Drones in ODST. Their improved movement was a real treat. It's amazing those two.. er three games are all on the same system. Would it be possible to share with us (either on Bungie.net or the final game) some/all the deleted animations? I remember seeing a couple unfinished ones from Halo 3 that didn't make it into the final game so it would be cool to see the same for Reach.
