Uhh why did Bungie steal one of my maps?

So I created a map a while ago...10-11-09 to be exact, and it was originally called "Pit Jr. v1" but apperently Bungie thought they could just take it and say they created it and they renamed it "PIT JR." Now I spent a good 4-5 hours on this map...and frankly I dont like the fact that Bungie would do that. My friend told me about this today and at first I did not belive it...but he then sent me a pic of it and this pissed me off. He was also a partial creater of it too...he created the middle bridge to it. He told me that he played the so called Bungie map and told me it was an exact replica. Now I know it was not a perfect map thats why I called it "v1" (version 1) I was going to later fix up the sniper spawns and fix up the middle section of the map. The map should say "By AZN11X" that was the gamer tag I originaly had when I created it...its now "ix Cejj xi". Now some Bungie member better speak up about this or I soon will be sueing...because this is rediculous. I have proof that it is was mine in two seperate pics on my cell...and soon in video. Anyone that doesnt belive me try to download the map from my fileshare. It will contain the original map created by me..not Bungie.

 • It's bungie's game, and their content. Good luck with the court case.

 • Ummm Bungie did not steal it. Someone liked your map and decided to take it. All you do is download the map and save it then go into forge and either change the name or move something and then save it again and it will be saved under that persons name. Trust me I have had my maps on bungie favs and I know how it feels getting maps taken but you can not do anything about it.

 • It says "Bungie" just like all their other maps. And just because its their content does not give them the right to take it and make it theirs. Thats called plagiarism my friend...and last time I checked thats illegal...weither its their content or not.

 • Anything created on a Bungie game is Bungie's property. Good luck with your lawsuit.

EVERYTHING is owned by Bungie/Microsoft. Sorry.

The part I bolded also refutes your plagiarism argument. [Edited on 04.17.2010 7:51 PM PDT]

 • True...well thank you. Plus its not that big of a deal. Its just wrong in my eyes...maybe not yours, but mine yes. I would just like at least some recognition, thats all. To me this is just like giving health care to illegal immagrants. They dont contribute at all by paying taxes or anything at all, yet they still get health care. Bungie didnt create the map, granted they provided me with the game in the first place, but yet they still get credit. At school they provide you with books and teachers, other companys provide the other school supplies but in the end you buy them and at that point those things are yours...teachers dont own your graduation papers you do...even though they provided you the skills to get the papers. Now this is nothing close to as important as those previous statements but to me its still wrong. But thank you again, that cooled me down a little bit.

 • All custom content on Bungie's games belong to Bungie, if they want. You created it, but as it says when you make custom content, it's their game, and they can do what they want with it.

 • As others have said, you can't sue them because they aren't taking anything that wasn't already theirs. Anyway, who does it say the author is? Can you link to the "stolen" version?

 • Still sucks having your stuff plagiarized, even if it isn't technically "yours" and they didn't technically "steal" it. You could ask whoever dun stolez it from you to please include your Gamertag as credit. Also: Not meaning to be a Forum copper (Lol), but you may want to take the other person's Gamertag out of your OP. • Let me see if I get this: You want to sue a video game developer for stealing a map that you made with their game. So, if I take a picture with my Nikon and make thousands of dollars on it and get it published in Time magazine, I owe all the cash to Nikon instead? Good luck with alllll that! Hell, I'd pay money just see what the judge says to you.

 • Let me start out by getting this out in the open first off, as I know many are thinking it but are simply not saying: You are thoroughly confused and have NO idea what your are talking about. Bungie did not steal your map, nor would they want to. They never have before, they have no reason to do so. They have map creation tools and highly skilled artists and programmers that you will never have the ability to rival. It would be pointless. You are confused, nothing malicious is going on, and no stealing happened. Deep breaths, it's gonna be ok. Do you have a paper baggy to breathe into, perhaps? Now then. That said, let's say they did "steal" your map. Understand this. Bungie owns that game. They own this site. They own all the software and anything produced by it by anyone. It is all theirs. If I decided to type out a 800 page novel on a super long thread and they copied it, formatted published and sold it, there would be nothing I could legally do about it. If you post it here, it belongs to them. If you make it in one of their games, bam. It's theirs. You spell out your name with cones on a map. Yep. They own it. Even with all the money in the world and all the free time and Jesus on your side with his very own MJOLNIR Mark X armor and an army of never-sleeping perfect cyborg lawyers, there is nothing you can do to them legally. It's not yours, deal with it. Now then. Go back and read that first paragraph. Continue the slow and steady breathing. It's all ok.

Can you link to the "stolen" version?
A person is free to sue another person for nearly any reason that they want, provided that they're a legal adult or aided through the help of a guardian assigned by the court. The main difficulty isn't in instituting the lawsuit, but rather in collecting any of the desired compensation, which negates the original purpose of the lawsuit itself. You should be happy that Bungie likes a map you made. Remember modders can put the name "Bungie" in too, so be careful about putting it on your fileshare :) And in the EULA (Hammer and Anvil) Bungie has the right no copy your map. You can't sue for what's clearly stated as acceptable in the Hammer and Anvil agreement you read before you post your map. Read this thread: link And in the end, it's just a freaking map. It's an organization of tags to make gameplay more fun. Why don't you just enjoy your map with your friends and calmly ask Bungie about this.

 • What exactly would be the terms of a lawsuit? Do you expect compensation? Let me know if you signed a contract that said you would be compensated for any maps you made. (you did sign an agreement that said you wouldn't be). Also...you didn't "create" anything. You merely put stuff in a different place with the TOOLS bungie ALLOWED you to use. All the items you used were already in the game. You wouldn't win a penny in court. If anything someone should be happy if a map they made is being used.
