• I like the premise. I'm not as concerned with canon as some others, but one thing does annoy me. Armor colors, seriously, baby blue? I understand having colors in multiplayer and that is fine. Throughout the series and almost every other source of canon state that Spartan armor is an iridescent green (because of the refractive coating) that fades to a dull olive over the years. I don't mind permutations, but I don't like rainbow Spartans. You don't see Marines dressed in their favorite colored camo before going into a Blackhawk. Having said that, I'm still eager to play.

 • If you don't appreciate the story or just the raw epicness of Halo you wouldn't like the trailer. Wahhhhh... This was ridiculous! I can't wait to wreck shop! BTW isn't the new 6th the CHIEF! That's the impression I got... [DOPE!!!!!!]

 • .................................. I enjoyed the trailer......... but....BUT.. that picture in the post. Realy? It doesn't look any different from Halo 3. Have you played any of the new shooter games lately bungie? Namely Gears2 and MW2. Regardless of how terrible a matchmaking system Gears has the game is beautiful and incredibly fun. For MW2 oh my god. I often forget its just a game and I'm not looking at real life. After seeing that screen shot in the post I'm starting to feel like this is going to be exactly like the Halo trilogy games(CE-3) and i hate to say it, but that style is outdated. I have been a die hard halo fan ever since CE, but if this beta isn't any different from the past 3 games... i'm not buying it.

 •
Posted by: Urmomidopulus canon... idk. There was the excellent point that one of their service numbers was 256 or something. In the book there were only 150 spartans... Meh. I was pumped for it to begin with, but now... idk. I mean, ill still buy it- but as a dedicated fan whos read every book and seen every video (Except for the anime series, cause thats retarded and RUINS halo) I can't help but wonder why they arent just going along with the book!?! It was soo good... and could make such an awesome game! It's depressing in a way, to see this whole new group of Spartans and possible "volunteer spartans" suddenly show up if it means the story of reach is suddenly altered...
It's not going against the canon of the book though, merely expanding it. If for example they took the team of spartans from the novel and then decided to kill them of, this would be going against canon, as that never happened. The reason they aren't going along with the book is so they have more freedom for the story and characters. Simply creating a game of the book will inevitably result in changes for gameplay and othe purposes and would in my oppinion cheapen it, and go against canon. Instead they are telling the story of reach from a different perspective (It was a big planet, with lots of stories to tell). We know that the initial spartan program was kept a secret, as was the spartan-III program. Who's to say there could not have been another spartan-II program that was kept secret, and because there are no characters from the novel, it in no way whatsoever goes against the novel, as it is seperate and builds upon the story of reach. If however bungie do not explain this discrepency then that does create a problem, if explained then it will be fine.

 • Does this mean we get to ask graphically oriented Reach questions now? If so.... Was the in game frame rate cap bumped up a bit? Relative to Halo 3, how much better will Reach's graphics be? (2x, 4x, OVER 9000x) What is the name of the VTOL seen in the Premier? Can you identify the names of the two other spartans who service tag and name remain unknown? (The Sniper and Grenadier[Popularly known as Skully in the Reach forums]) Could you tell us some of the features that the AAA engine has that 1-ups its predecessor? Apart from those questions, the World Premier video is awesome. I can't wait for the beta in a few months.

 • Wow the new engine looks sweet! Great music, and whoever models the armor at Bungie does a damn good job! I'm actually hoping that this doesn't follow any of the other known spartan groups on the planet. In fact, I think it would be a lot cooler to fight your own mission and then hear about the other teams' experiences through marines or radio chatter. This isn't to say a red team cameo wouldn't be cool, I just don't want the story to be so confined throughout the game.

 • i agree! this game should be based around the book Halo: First Strike. they should have us playing as one the surviving spartans from Red Team. then even MC shows up and the story can continue to follow the book as Fred, Kelly, Linda, MC and the rest take on the covies. i dont like the idea of another made up story-line to the Halo Universe (which was set down by the books) come on Bungie!!!!

 •
Posted by: Woody 543
Posted by: Harflin My question is: Is this canon to the books? Because it looks to me like the sniper in the cinematic is a boy, where in the books it's a girl.
It is canon to the books, but doesn't have any characters from the books, it is instead telling the story of a different spartan team on reach, giving them more versitility on the story as apposed to making a game about the book.
canon... idk. There was the excellent point that one of their service numbers was 256 or something. In the book there were only 150 spartans... Meh. • Man, looked sweet as, the textures and detail was amazing. Looking forward to seeing it in action. Just a small request though. Can we please map our own controls this time around? Main reason I ask for this is I prefer to scope with the LT then with the Right thumbstick. And I'm sure there are many more gamers like me out there. Again, keep up the awesome work Bungie, been waiting for a new Halo game for ages now. Halo: Reach Lans will be interesting.

 • I might not be the only one that noticed this but. The women spartan, I don't know if it just one of her arms or both of them but they look to be robtic or something like that. But the game looks awesome can't wait for the beta!

 • My only concern...ODST was just a re-release of Halo 3 that we all paid $60 for. Will Reach be built on a completely new engine with updated graphics or will we be receiving a Halo 3-->ODST-->Reach re-release with the same features as the previous. I am a hardcore fan but ODST disappointed me...I mean no matchmaking.?? A week after release I never saw anyone playing it... Please don't turn into EA, pumping out below average games every year.

 • I pray they make teh Enemy AI's more challenging like killzone hard. ^^ They're AI's were insanely challenging even on easy which i liked. Got annoying but took me a bit and perhaps we see more weapons and vehicles we havent seen or from Halo Wars. Halo Wars they showe dhumand werent too primitive like the others which found intersting.

 •
Posted by: ODST Shadow Halo wiki is usual an excellent source of knowing more about the halo universe i check their. Where you expecting more of a somethign along the lines of gameplay or a brief fight dazarobbo?
Perhaps. Just looking back at the other "defining" videos of the Halo games, you've got the Halo E3 video; it was a MASSIVE transition from Halo: CE and it something great to look forward to. Battle Rifle - Wow! Dual Wielding - OMG!!! Switch weapons with your allies - Yes! Hijack vehicles - Yay! Among other things. Then from Halo 2 to Halo 3 everyone was wondering what Truth was after, and we got a glimpse of it in the trailer where there's the big bright light, and it ends in a huge bang; "OMG! What's going to happen next!?! Can't wait to play this!". Now we've got Reach, and apart from the graphical aspect of it, there's nothing really enticing in it at all. OK, yeah, we're going back to fighting Elites again - that's hardly breathtaking stuff in my opinion - it's not like we haven't before. I'm not saying I hate it, I'm just saying that there's nothing in there that's going to make we want to rush out and spend my hard-earned money on it like the other games did.

 • To be honest, I'm a little disappointed. There wasn't a "wow-factor" in there like there was in the videos released for the other games in the franchise. Although, yeah, the graphics look good and all, but I don't know, I guess I was expecting something a little more enthralling. I guess at this point I'm just... indifferent. : |

 •
Reference please? The only thing that I can find says there were 75 candidates chosen out of the 150. Of those 75, 30 died and 12 were disabled by the augmentation process. Leaving 33 actives.
again i dont know where people get their information from but i found this site while looking it basically says that for budget reasons out of 150 only half were chosen 150 Possible candidates as for the second class they are mentioned in the books but i cannot find out anything about them hopefully bungie unravels their backstory [Edited on 12.13.2009 6:30 PM PST]

 •
Posted by: CaptnJosh
Ok, didn't read the whole thread, but is that commander's name & number really Carter-259? Didn't the Spartans only go up to 150 max? As in, there were 150 possible candidates?
Yes your right there was 150 possible candidates in the first class of spartan 2
Reference please? The only thing that I can find says there were 75 candidates chosen out of the 150. Of those 75, 30 died and 12 were disabled by the augmentation process. Leaving 33 actives. Edit - By 'reference', I mean something official stating more than one group of Spartan-IIs. Not community speculation please. And yes, I'm semi-aware of the comments in Ghosts of Onyx, but that's not really a definitive "There actually was a fully matured second group". [Edited on 12.13.2009 5:57 PM PST]
