New Contest Suggestions.
Since the Avatar contest went off relatively well, perhaps a new contest will come?
I'm not sure if its been done on this site already, but how about a [i]short story[/i] fanfic contest? It'd be ambitious and very time-consuming (and since Bungie is working on Halo 2, that one factor might make this contest too much). There should be a minimum and maximum page/word limit, so things can't be submitted too small, nor too large (perhaps somewhere between a minimum of 4 pages and a max of 20). It'd have to be Halo-related (or, I suppose, it could be based on another Bungie game, such as Oni or Marathon). It can't be offensive (obviously). It should also have certain grammar requirements. The winner could get something special (perhaps a custom avatar), and there could be several runner-up prizes (but no "last place prizes," so it would encourage good writing, not bad).
Like I said, it'd be very time-consuming for whoever the judges will be, since they'd have to read through all of the entries. That simple fact probably makes this contest impossible to have.... but it might be fun.
Anyone have more suggestions?
If this type of contest can't be done, or if we're not allowed to make these type of suggestions, any Mods who read this should block the thread.

NABIUL You are very naive, if you think that's all there was to the Halo. That may have been it's FINAL purpose, but -- Nevermind, That kind of talk belongs in The Library or The Maw...

How about a contest of contests? Whoever comes up with the best contest suggestion gets a prize.... It'd be a small prize, but a reward, nonetheless. I see no problems with this... its simple, and available to everyone... (that contest is NOT this thread).

Its a good thing it'd be limited to those who can record it into their comp... that way, there won't be as much, thus less space.

umm.. did you exactly finish halo?, they clearly stated what halo was created and designed to do,... and that is be a weapon and not much of anything else but a confinement area for the flood.................. oh and this dosent make sense, if halo can wipe the galaxy clean of life why cant it kill the flood? since the flood is confined to halo?.................. Best theory on the purposes of Halo(s) besides weapons, the winner would be picked after Halo2 comes out (Or Halo:Infinity since Bungie likes to do 3's) The winner would have to be the one who is closest to Bungie's original plan. Of course this would exclude any Bungie Employees, and anyone else who is privy to the information. (Probably Mods too, sorry guys!!!)

ya its a nice idea but itll take wayyy too much space, a great contest would be whats the most creative thing you could to with halo but then youd get a million people copying "red vs blue",.... oh heres one,. whats the funniest or best screenshot of halo you can get....

War.. Halo.. it's all the same. Lol Kinda like a Maw-run, Shai? It would be a good idea but like you said, it'll take a lot of space and be limited to people who can record it and get it on the compy.

Although I like the short story contest better, here's another: Gameplay Contest!!!!!!! The level would be Two Betrayals, since it has everything that's in the game (all the vehicles (except the tank, I guess), all enemy Covenant, Sentinels, Flood.... everything). It's also decently challenging, and gives different gameplay options (limited sniping, close-range combat, mid-range combat, explosives, and vehicles). Whoever is able to record their gameplay can enter (but you have to be able to put it into a computer and send it in electronically). The winner would be whoever displays the best use of tactics in the level without dying a lot (in other words, I suppose, whoever dies the least (but with slight exceptions, see below))...... But, due to the size of the level, and amount of memory all those sent-in vids would take up... this contest might not be possible. Exceptions to the least deaths rule: -If you die few times, but exhibit extremely reckless gameplay and are usually in low health, it decreases your chances of winning. -If you don't have the least amount of deaths, and there are those who use other tactics and die less, but you show incredible ingenuity and genius in accomplishing tasks (such as managing to completely obliterate many enemies with extremely well-placed shots and/or grenades in such a way that would astonish even the most hardcore of players), it increases your chances of winning.

There's so MANY obvious contests we could have that I'm torn but I've noticed we have many very TALENTED artists on this board so my suggestion is to have a hand-drawn (I guess we could include 3D-studio max'ess' stuff in there as well) contest where the winner gets either 1) An avatar (if Bungie is willing) 2) Maybe something Game mentioned? 3) Their own chapter design for the new 7th Column hotness (assuming this isn't a feature). 4) Maybe something signed by Bungie if they have the time? Don't know.... But those are my suggestions.

Best Halo 2 armor emblem? Hmmmm, I have a winner, there (its not original, though): The face of Cheshire Cat from the [i]game[/i] Alice.... That game is cool... freaky, but cool. The cat's evil grin is awesome.

A short story contest sounds great! Or maybe a contest for best Halo 2 armor emblem. And no offence, Junkie, but the title "The Art of ----" is rather common. I don't think they intended to rip the title of your artical. It's just a shortened way to say "The Artwork of Halo."

I have a few ideas: - Buddy Icon Contest - SIG Banner Contest I have others, just these would be the most likley. I would most likly get 1st place for buddy icons, no offens eto anyone, but making Halo buddy icons is what I do. - Trigun

Ringworld is Niven, but it's really not as related as you would think... Starhammer on the other hand, is VERY related... But why not make it a copy of The Art of Halo (Not my Article, Bungie stole the name to use for an Artwork Book) It should be coming out sometime later this year... [Edited on 7/4/2004 5:35:49 PM]

How soon can we expect the New Hotness (has the release been hinted at?)? Maybe 7/7.... Anyway, since its a writing contest that I speak of, perhaps the reward should be some sort of book... Not one of the Halo books, since many already have those (unless.... unless its a [i]signed[/i] copy....). Maybe a copy of [i]Ringworld[/i] (I forget the author)? I've always wanted to read that... its not really Halo-related, but its [i]like[/i] a Halo.... I've heard its good. Anything sci fi would be suitable for a literary reward... Especially Herbert, Asimov, or Phildickian (Philip K. Dick). Only suggestions.

Absolutely agreed, I don't want anyone stifled, but I want to be able to share the stories through the column whenever applicable. I think that Non-Chapter participants should have the same chances and the same prize, but maybe lose out on the exposure that sharing their story would entail. But I can guarantee that the contest would benefit the Column. If everyone that was in a chapter advertised it in their sig during the story competition, that would at the very least bring about 5-10% of the people reading it (If they liked it) to that chapter. And That Ain't Bad.
