Underground / Shmunderground
If any of you have been to the underground as long as I have, you'll have noticed that many topics are repeated at least almost ten times a day. My solution: make some sort of list at the top, displaying all the recent and popular topics, with links to them so nobody makes seven clone topics. what do you think? I think something like that should be done, other wise, people will be burned in the underground like the salem witch trials.

Actually, people have been rather well behaved about reposts. There are some that complain, but I think most people are being quite understanding.

I pin the really popular topics so that some people won't make like duplicate topics. It helps a lot whenever they post a new screenshot or something.

Generally, I just don't reply to repeated topics. I mean, if you reply, it jumps back up to the front page, and becomes active again. People who reply to these posts saying "soandso already posted this, please pay attention", are inadvertantly making the thread more popular!

I think the first thing we need to stop frequently asked questions from coming up is a big prominent link to the Bungie FAQs. At the moment they're hidden away, far from view. I took a few hours before I finally found them on the new site! Also, it'd be good to have something similar to Shishka's Guide for Newcomers at the HBO forum, but tailor-made for these forums. Can't be arsed myself, but any volunteers? :) - Reiginko

Well there is [url=http://www.bungie.net/Help/page.aspx?section=Pages&subsection=Main&Page=7]this[/url]. It's pretty much a guide for the forum...could include some rules and what not. The underground should have a link to that page.

aha, but thought there was also a special rules guide. Guess i was wrong. In that case, we DO need a special rules guide, thingie whatever you call it.

hey, you could write one for the underground and i could write one for the septagon (not much use in writing two seperate, just a few lines extra in the guide would be enough). And someone else could write one for the maw! Just a little ridiculous idea. still, do i/sigma need to write it, or is one of the bungie guys going to do it?

What do you guys want to write? A rules list? Don't we already have that? I don't think it's a good idea to write up a huge rules list, cause like no new user will ever read it. I mean I only read the bungie.net code of conduct because I heard it had some funny stuff in it.

i remember now, LK toldeveryone it was funny... but it wasnt.... you wasted a few minutes of my life!!!!!! but i waste mine anyway... *shrugs shoulders* i dont think we need more rules things, jsut raise awareness of them... make a sticky topic that links to all the rules you will ever need, and make it with a big super title...

No really where is it?[/quote][/quote] Aha thank you i knew i wasn't dreaming! i knew it, i knew i read it somewhere! however that link is soooo small. it has to be bigger, my poor fragile eyes could barely find it. BIGER LINK, it's easier for the new guys to find aswell. That might save all of us some troubles.

Good ideas for links and cross-content. We're looking at using the right side margin a little differently, so we can put more useful/helpful links there for people. We do have the sticky forum guidelines right now in the underground, but I bet hardly anyone has actually clicked it. We could do just one sticky post that has a link to all of the various FAQs and rumor busters but again, not sure it would really help since the people who create redundant posts are the ones who don't want to spend 1 second trying to find their answer first.

A beeter plan huh? Well, I hadn't thought about actually resorting to beets, but I suppose that if thrown in large quantities and at a high velocity, they could be an effective deterrant for spam and inappropriate behavior in the forums. I'm kidding of course... I'm not being mean. =)
