I have a bone to pick.
Why can we only follow 100 users? I know that it's a lot of people, but how can we follow everyone that we like if there's a limit? Just imagine if twitter had a limit, no one would follow you.
Please, get rid of the limit :)
Does anyone else think the same?

[quote][quote]I like this idea a lot. It makes sense too, because the longer you have been on the site, the more people you are likely to know. Its not like most things where people think they are entitled to things just because they are older. In this case, it actually would be a necessary thing.

Yet you could be here only a year and get to know just as many people as someone who's been here for 5.
Some people have been here for years and get to know NO ONE on a person level.
I just don't agree with this logic.

If you are not that close to someone, then their orbit is farther out. The 100 person limit should be enough to encompass all those with whom you are close and share personal information with and even include some "comfortable strangers". But it shouldn't be everyone who just happens to be in the same school district... how well can you know everyone in that grouping knowing how large, diverse and... irrelevant it is?

100 is fine. Following someone makes it easier to see their activity log.
You're still able to interact with more people and see their activity log even without following them.

[quote]There has to be some limit from a technical perspective, but the current limit is not a technical limitiation. For now, we picked a small limit because we don't want you to follow everyone. That makes following meaningless. We'll see how it plays out over time and adjust accordingly.

[quote]I understand where people are coming from when they want a higher following limit, and I understand why people think it should be raised with age. I've been a member on Bungie.net for a little over four years now. I know a lot of people. Like, a lot. My XBL friend's list has been filled for years, and I still don't have everyone on there that I'd want.
The point is though, like Recon said, there are only so many people that you actually "know". I know about half the users on this website. I've talked to them on occasion, recognize their names, etc. But do I really "know" them? No.
All that said, I'm perfectly ok with just being able to follow 100 people, because once you start following a lot of people, exactly how well are you really following them? Even at 100 people, are you really able to follow them like a real follower? There's a point where you simply can't keep up, and following someone simply becomes a meaningless gesture. So 100 is good. In my opinion, at least.

I'm only following a couple people. :-)

I made the exact same thread last night. But, apparently, making the thread nonsensical and completely stupid doesn't get you a lot of replies.
-
Honestly, I don't understand why we need to "follow" people at all...

I think it's more like a one-way friends list rather than followers on Twitter. It makes it much easier to message people and stuff like that. I don't mind the limit, but a little more would be nice.

Meh I don't think the join date should have anything to do with this. I still haven't figured out how to take adavantage of following anyone, so a limit doesn't bother me. It might at asome point though. just like that stupid limit of 100 friends on Xbox Live.
-
There's no point. What the -blam!- even happens when you follow someone?

I agree. The limit should only be set for technical reasons; Achronos mentioned that it wasn't and the number may be adjusted.
-
I actually don't have this problem. Although I do think we should have a limit. The limit that is stated in the OP should be implemented i'd say.
-
I too think they should increase the limit, but not based on seniority.
-
Your activity page would take days to load..
-
They need a "Follow All the Users" button.
-
100 users? That's insane!
-
Why would you need to follow 100+ people? The tool was built into the site, so that users can follow others whose content and posts they enjoy reading, not a bunch of random people who ask for followers. Besides, if you increase the limit, you will have another problem when you hit the next limit.
-
If they increase the limit, it shouldn't be connected to how long you've been here. There's no good reason for that.
-
There's that and then they need to take away the group join limit, only being able to join 10 groups is a little low.
-
Agreed.
-
yeah, I've never felt like I had a ton of Bnet pals, but just going through old PMs there is a lot of the old community I want to follow just in case they peak in at some point. 100 people isn't enough.
-
The attitude I have gotten from the employees is they want us to be active but only as active as THEY think you can be not how much you want to be. I want to be in as many groups as I want but you can only be in 10, because they say you can't be active enough more than 10 groups.
-
I agree, I do think i there was not a limit you would have people that follow every single person on the site.
-
Agreed. I understand that it makes people consider who they follow more carefully, rather than simply following every member they see posting, but why not leave it up to the user to decide how they use the system? Some members may follow far too many users and be unable to keep track, but I don't see that as a reason to limit others, who may genuinely like over a hundred other people. What if there were a limit for newer members, but gradually more places become available? Older members are likely to know the community better, so it's reasonable that they may wish to follow a greater number of individuals.
