The testing phase for the August 2006 matchmaking update has been completed. The update will be released (tentatively) sometime this week, as usual we will not announce the release time/date prior to when it actually occurs.

Below is a list of changes that are included in the update, feel free to use this thread to discuss these upcoming changes, but please discuss only the changes in this update.

You will notice that we have identified the new playlist 'Team Carnage' however at this time we are not releasing details regarding exactly what this playlist consists of. After the update is deployed, we'll make sure to go into gritty detail regarding what you can find in this new playlist.


August 2006 Matchmaking Update

Configuration:
* Rumble Pit, Rumble Training and Team Training now require a minimum of 6 players to start a game

Playlists:
* Rumble Hardcore has been removed
* Team Carnage has been added (read notice above)

Double Team:
* Single Flag CTF has been removed
* Team King on Ascension has been removed
* Pistols on Lockout has been removed
* Rifles on Ascension has been removed
* Slayer on Gemini has been removed
* Multi Flag Human on Beaver Creek has been removed
* CTF Classic now has an SMG start specified
* CTF Classic on Midship and Warlock now use the human weapon set
* Crazy King now has a moving hill on a 30 second timer, SMG start specified
* Team Ball now has an SMG start specified
* Slayer on Midship is now Slayer Human
* Slayer on Warlock is now Slayer Human
* Slayer on Ascension is now Slayer BR (No Sniping)
* Slayer on Sanctuary is now Slayer BR (No Sniping)

Team Training:
* Team SWAT is now SWAT Classic (No Grenades)

BTB Skirmish:
* Flag Wars on Coagulation is now Flag Wars on Waterworks

BTB Slayer:
* Lowered weighting for Gulch Wars
* Lowered weighting for Team Rockets

Team SWAT:
* Gemini has been removed
* 3 Plots, Assault and Single Flag on Lockout have been removed

Team ActionSack:
* Multi Flag Snipers on Colossus has been removed

Miscellaneous Gametype Changes:
* Team Snipers - added Beam Rifle secondary and removed powerups
* Rumble Snipers - added Beam Rifle secondary and removed powerups
* Rumble Slayer Pro - removed heavy vehicles

Kinda bummed on the no info on the Team Carnage. (cool name by-the-way)

Whats the reasoning on not divulging info on this new playlist?

I understand about removing Flagwars from Coag, Why is it being added to Waterworks instead of Containment?

No ranked team swat..that sucks. WTF is team Karnage? bad idea not letting anyone know what it is. Every update has gotten worse.

Why is CTF on Collosis removed from actionsack? That was the best actionsack game in the whole playlist...This is just sad

CTF on "Collosis" was a bad game, whenever someone played it I would hear complaining. They didn't want to make SWAT ranked yet because they haven't tested it properly. I want it to be, but not yet. It is fun to play unranked games. I sort of like the suprise playlist thing, it keeps you wondering.

May I ask why you didn't change the Map Default weapons on map for Beaver Creek? Team Training are essentially "Combo Wars".

Can't you put it back to "Human" like it was about 5 or so updates ago please? :)

I agree, great changes. I really wouldnt have asked for much more. You guys touched on pretty much every flawed gametype, congrats if you actually read these things. Pertaining to flag wars- nice change, no one can complain about waterworks. It will be really interesting to see how it turns out because once that flag is grabbed it could go anywhere; obviously back the way it came, or up and to either side. I think the key will be to control the top with a sniper and multiple BR's. All in All, two thumbs up. Now i just have to get my ass home so i can start playing

I whinned about the removal of 6v6 and SWAT being a whole playlist the last time you posted such an update. The lack of information and stubborn clinging to the old lists got in the way. Now, I've played more BTB Slayer and Team SWAT this past summer than every Halo 2 game in the past year (from last summer). That's saying a LOT. Congratulations!

Currently when you enter BTB Slayer you have roughly a 32% chance of getting Gulch Wars, which is really a bit too high. In this update, it will be lowered to about half of that.

I really dislike the lack of specifics, such as reasoning for why Team SWAT is not being ranked, why the Beam Rifle is going to be secondary for Team Snipers, and why there is no info on Team Carnage. You know people are going to -blam!- about it anyway, yet you still choose to keep it from them. When it comes out people are just going to -blam!- more. In my opinion and in simplest terms: this update for August 2006 BLOWS!

Well it's quite disappointing that SWAT isn't going to be ranked. Bungie, you guys are letting down much of the XBL community.

Wanted to have something positive in my post as well. Thank you SO much for getting rid of the camo/overshield in Team Snipers. That will make it much more enjoyable.

Flag Wars on Waterworks will probably be a lot more fair than before. I think Contaiment would have made more sense, but they're both better than Coagulation.

Nothing to say about Rumble Pit. I never play it.

I just have a question though. What's the point of having Team SWAT in Team Training if there's already a playlist for it? If you had decided to rank Team SWAT, then it would have made sense. But since it's staying unranked, unfortunately, I don't see what the point of having it in Team Training is. Especially since it's exactly the same (the playlist and the gametype).

Happy that Team SWAT is not ranked, actually. That's a good fun playlist.

Dissapointed the Flag Wars on Coag is being removed (Though, I ALWAYS won playing that, so I may be a little biased :D )

Team Carnage, you gave us ZERO information on that, so I can't say a word about it (That'd be pretty stupid, to bash something I have no idea what it is)

Rumble Hardcore...I played that a little bit. It was fun, but you're probably removing it due to low amounts of people playing. Makes sense.

Thanks for removing those objective games on Lickout in Team SWAT, they were annoying. Though, I've never got 3 Plots Lockout in SWAT, so I don't know if it was really bad.

Team Rockets in BTB Slayer is annoying, I'd rather it be completely removed.

Don't see anything else that really interests me, so I'll shut up now.

EDIT:

I'm curious as why so many people want SWAT ranked, I seriously have seen NO desire before for such a change.
