I'm 25 year old engineer and I like Halo.
First off, this is not a contest. If it were, it would be the greatest contest for Halo lovers ever. Sorry guys! Rather this is thread asking for your opinions and suggestions for the following situation...
The Story: I was able to obtain copy of the Mythic map pack a couple of days ago. I have been extremely giddy since I've had it and have been wanting to play as soon as I get home from work until the time I go to bed. I realize I have other things that need to be done around the house (and I've been accomplishing them), but that desire to run downstairs and turn on my Xbox is still there. Finally last night I was "done with my chores" and it was late enough that I fired up Halo and began to play team mythic. My wife was sitting next to me on the couch doing an online crossword puzzle. I kept pointing out what I thought were awesome features in what I consider to be the greatest maps Bungie has ever created. My wife(Holly) did not share in my glee or even care for that matter. Holly is a good listener and usually pretends to care when I babel about things that are happening in the Halo world, but is not genuinely enthused. It made me wish she could care the way I do.
My wife has played some halo in the past, but not enough real gameplay to be hooked or grow any attachment to it. The vast majority of her gameplay came from grifball or from rumble pit (where she hoped she would get a sword or hammers round). Although it's impossible for me to force her to like something, I'm confident that if she becomes more skilled at regular slayer game types, she'll enjoy it more and we can play together in the future. So I came up with an idea to get her to play.
The Objective: To attempt to make my wife to love Halo almost as much or more than I do. If she can meet a list of criteria I specified for her in two weeks from today(February 27th). She will earn a decent prize.
The Prize: is either a Kindle 2, Center Ice Detroit Red Wings Tickets(we're both big fans) Concert Tickets(for a few unnamed bands) other perhaps some other awesome prize.
The Criteria:
Once again, here are Holly's current stats
- Reach a rank of captain Grade 3
- Minimum Highest skill of 25
- Minimum 400 EXP
(Complete 7 of these next 9 tasks)
- Earn at least 1 killing frenzy medal
- Earn at least 1 sniper spree medal
- Earn at least 1shotgun spree medal <----Completed 3/1/09
- Earn at least 1 flag carrier kill medal <----Completed 2/27/09
- Earn at least 1 Killed VIP medal <----Completed 2/27/09
- Earn at least 1 Skyjack medal <----Completed 2/27/09
- Unlock Triple Kill Achievement
- Unlock Mongoose Mowdown Achievement <----Completed 3/1/09
- Unlock Too Close to The Sun Achievement
-Take 1 picture(she likes) and set as trophy shot
-Take 1 video(she's proud of) and transfer it to her file share. <----Completed 3/1/09
The Conclusion: My wife has agreed to these circumstances and her plunge into the halo world will begin today.
There are other great things in our lives besides Halo and other video games, I have 2 awesome kids to play with, I've been building another bedroom upstairs and I can't wait until spring so I can play some soccer with my boys and go mountain biking, but I'd still like to share this hobby with my wife.
What do you guys think of the idea? What would you give for a prize? Would you add/remove/change the criteria? Any other suggestions or comments or personal tales(especially of getting you significant other to play) are welcome.
