Subject: I Bribed My Wife to Play Halo in Order to Get Her Hooked.

I'm 25 year old engineer and I like Halo.

First off, this is not a contest. If it were, it would be the greatest contest for Halo lovers ever. Sorry guys! Rather this is thread asking for your opinions and suggestions for the following situation...

The Story: I was able to obtain copy of the Mythic map pack a couple of days ago. I have been extremely giddy since I've had it and have been wanting to play as soon as I get home from work until the time I go to bed. I realize I have other things that need to be done around the house (and I've been accomplishing them), but that desire to run downstairs and turn on my Xbox is still there. Finally last night I was "done with my chores" and it was late enough that I fired up Halo and began to play team mythic. My wife was sitting next to me on the couch doing an online crossword puzzle. I kept pointing out what I thought were awesome features in what I consider to be the greatest maps Bungie has ever created. My wife(Holly) did not share in my glee or even care for that matter. Holly is a good listener and usually pretends to care when I babel about things that are happening in the Halo world, but is not genuinely enthused. It made me wish she could care the way I do.

My wife has played some halo in the past, but not enough real gameplay to be hooked or grow any attachment to it. The vast majority of her gameplay came from grifball or from rumble pit (where she hoped she would get a sword or hammers round). Although it's impossible for me to force her to like something, I'm confident that if she becomes more skilled at regular slayer game types, she'll enjoy it more and we can play together in the future. So I came up with an idea to get her to play.

The Objective: To attempt to make my wife to love Halo almost as much or more than I do. If she can meet a list of criteria I specified for her in two weeks from today(February 27th). She will earn a decent prize.

The Prize: is either a Kindle 2, Center Ice Detroit Red Wings Tickets(we're both big fans) Concert Tickets(for a few unnamed bands) other perhaps some other awesome prize.

The Criteria:
Once again, here are Holly's current stats

- Reach a rank of captain Grade 3
- Minimum Highest skill of 25
- Minimum 400 EXP

(Complete 7 of these next 9 tasks)

- Earn at least 1 killing frenzy medal
- Earn at least 1 sniper spree medal
- Earn at least 1shotgun spree medal <----Completed 3/1/09
- Earn at least 1 flag carrier kill medal <----Completed 2/27/09
- Earn at least 1 Killed VIP medal <----Completed 2/27/09
- Earn at least 1 Skyjack medal <----Completed 2/27/09
- Unlock Triple Kill Achievement
- Unlock Mongoose Mowdown Achievement <----Completed 3/1/09
- Unlock Too Close to The Sun Achievement

-Take 1 picture(she likes) and set as trophy shot
-Take 1 video(she's proud of) and transfer it to her file share. <----Completed 3/1/09

The Conclusion: My wife has agreed to these circumstances and her plunge into the halo world will begin today.

There are other great things in our lives besides Halo and other video games, I have 2 awesome kids to play with, I've been building another bedroom upstairs and I can't wait until spring so I can play some soccer with my boys and go mountain biking, but I'd still like to share this hobby with my wife.

What do you guys think of the idea? What would you give for a prize? Would you add/remove/change the criteria? Any other suggestions or comments or personal tales(especially of getting you significant other to play) are welcome.

Hope Unto Dawn Chairity FFA Tournament Finalist

I think thats one of the greatest ideas of all time

Instead of listening to the wife nag at you for playing so much get her hooked on it too

Nothing would get done but at least you would have a good team doubles partner.

good luck at getting her hooked

That is totally awesome! You're a serious manipulator, kudos!

But seriously, some of those criteria are HARD! I know a lot of people it took a lot more than two weeks to get those! Some of them STILL haven't!

Word up to my hommies...

I tried to introduce my wife to halo.... and halo did not accept her. I think its a good idea, but it doesnt always work out. But irregardless, Kudos to you for actually having a wife.

I realize there's a possibility she still may not care at the end of her challenge, but if she truly still doesn't like it, I'll be ok with that and let it go.

Word up to my hommies...

FYI... you posted the killing frenzy objective twice :) Personally, I think you should try to get her hooked on other things as well.

My wife thinks all shooters are the same. She does support my Halo addiction. She got me the spartan helmet for my birthday. Thats all i can ask from her since she will not play with me.

My 14yr old son got me hooked 1.5 months ago. So much so that I bought my own x-box just to play halo on....don't like playing on a split screen. Now the wife nags both of us to get off the damn xboxs because the computer won't work when both xbox consoles are connected to live. Would love to get her hooked on halo but she has no desire at this point. If you get your wife hooked on it tell me how you did it.

Bungie, oh Bungie, oh Bungie,
Know what would really be fun, G?
I don’t wish to nag
But remake Coag,
Or die from a purple sword-lungie.

Mongoose Mowdown? That takes way too much time to get if you aren't lucky.

Thanks, I fixed it!

I am one step ahead of you good sir. I have already managed to get her into Hockey and am working on getting her to go mountain biking with me. She has convinced me to watch a few TV shows she likes, so she has some power of persuasion too.

I picked the Mongoose Mowdown because one of the things she does enjoy in the game is trying to splatter people with the goose. I think she'll enjoy that one!

  • 02.27.2009 5:57 AM PST

Good luck dude. My wife likes to play but then gets frustrated after like one game and says "I'm done" She did help you get that invincible though lol. We need to party up again soon. I wish I had the mythic maps right now but will probably wait for it go to dlc. Later.

That would make sense.
Give her a good luck from us forum-goers.

I've tried and tried to get my wife to play Halo with me. She played some campaign, said the controls were too complicated since you have to use all the buttons, and then told me the game was stupid. Sad face.

Maybe when one of my three girls grow up, they'll love the game. I did find a shirt I just bought that says "My Daddy Has MAD Skills at Halo!" So there's some pride for my oldest girl (just turned 2 1/2) to wear. Bam.
