Nearly a 600 year time difference, reality -vs- fiction, and people are getting riled up over that?

Wow.

how about people in the uk here/read were's maddie and well lets say people jump to cocnclusions im sorry recon your wrong on this one, its clearly not an intentional reference but unfortunately thats how it is going to be taken. bungie do need to issue some statement here.

So those 6 letters are off limits? Fine, whatever.

As always, all of the characters in our games are fictional. Any similarities between real life and the characters in our games are purely coincidental.

That said, this is both an unfortunate and untended coincidence.

Thousands of things worse have happened, what if someone named John went missing, or Cortana?

Lol, True, The guy that made this thread is way, way too touchy about the subject.

  • 09.25.2008 9:56 AM PST

No no....they really would get hyped up about fiction, sci fi and rumors. British tabloids will print anything provided it damages things they hate and videogames certainly feature high on that list.

Also the McCann's press core are keen to keep the story in peoples minds so any new angle may well be used by them to bring the subject back into peoples minds. All it would need is one Journo to ask for a reaction from the family to their official spokesperson then you'll have the headline "McCann parents discusted by videogames marketing intrusion".

Theres your story.

It still may not happen and i'd be glad if it didnt...cos its just daft. But it certainly wouldnt surprise me to see it.

Why so serious?

Okay, i personally didn't take any offence to this new teaser trailer (looks pretty damn sweet if i don't say so myself) saying "Maddie, where are you?" Yeah, a girl went missing in PORTUGAL, just because she was from the UK means nothing. I certainly don't think bungie were doing this on purpose, as lukems says, It's pure coincidence. Just relax.

P.S I am from the UK myself. So don't get all up in my face over a computer saying "wel u is nt frm uk so hw u knw ow it feel?!"

Calm down.

I am sorry but even british tabloids getting all uptight thats a bit of a stretch....... Drink some coffee (you sound like you need the caffine) and come back to your sense.

  • 09.25.2008 10:00 AM PST

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

If it wasn't maddie, it would be somthing else "offensive" in the tease. People always complain about somthing.

Let the press publish their crap, who cares tbh. are the real Halo 3 fans gonna not buy it because of something as pathetic as this? the only people who are gonna care are the people who dont play Halo 3

Fox News, 10 months ago, side story titled 'Halo 3 makes kids more hyper than drinking 10 gallons of red bull to wash down those caffine pills they just swallowed'.

  • 09.25.2008 10:01 AM PST

I'm from the UK and just thought it was quite an amusing co-incidence.

Really, if there was anything to be made from this it could be positive PR as it could be something that just reminds people that the girl is still missing and that's no bad thing. It's not exactly like Halo 3 is some bizarre kidnapping simulation game.

Besides, I think that the op who posted this has some room to talk with a quite openly offensive forum nickname.

  • 09.25.2008 10:01 AM PST

Gentlemen, I have bad news, this room is surrounded by film!

I'm thinking what the Superintendant was reffering to was Melissa McKay. Who fled Rech after the covenant attacked it.

Hey guys.

Just to let you know that due to some small message in (or thought to be in) your new trailer that apparantly reads "Wheres Maddie?" small but growing numbers of halo fanboys are posting stuff on websites related to the disapperance of a kid in the UK named Madaline McCann.

Now i dont know how well you know the UK press....but they can be, say...reactionary at best. Especially about Maddie. All it would take is a few more posts and you can be sure you'll end up in a few of the red tops....and i assure you it wont be favourable to the Bungie cause. They love a good anti-gaming story.

You may want to issue a statement to people telling them to calm down before the press get hold of it. About 24 hours i reckon.

Just thought i'd warn you :)

P.s Ask Frankie if you want to know more about the British press...i'm sure he's got some horror stories..

you know, i don't like the way you single out the british press, all press is like that >_>.
But yeah, the press aren't that crazy, even our wacky zany press.

For goodness' sake, it was a frikin' joke when I said the tabloids would be on it! You know how goddamn inflammatory they can be!

  • 09.25.2008 10:01 AM PST

What if it said "Natalie...where are you"....would people jump to the conclusion they meant Natalie Halloway who went missing in Aruba? would the Dutch demand an apology?

People need to relax. There are names of many people who have gone missing throughout history, not being able to ever use their name in a work of fiction with completely different context is ridiculous.

  • 09.25.2008 10:02 AM PST

its not the name maddie thats an issue its the context its within as in "were's maddie" suggesting maddie is missing, as lukems has stated and as i did in a previous post its clearly unitentional but regarless of that its still somewhat of a parallel.
