"What you’re seeing is roughly the same situation as you would have in Halo 2, but with movies and screenshots available to examine this stuff, you’re seeing more alleged injustice on a frame by frame basis. The sniper IS harder to use now, so sack up, it requires more skill."

This is what we got in response to asking why the hit detection is glitchy in the sniper rifle. Are we really being told, in the face of irrefutable evidence that the sniper is glitchy, that we should just deal with it because it's now "harder to use"?
I wouldn't mind if the hit detection was a little off and from time to time shots go through heads...I can deal with that. The problem is that IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
By the way, for those who are going to tell me it's lag...it's not. I've done it in local games, and against stationary (afk) players on Live. It's not a lag issue. It's a hit-detection issue.
I've got over 15 clips of this happening in the past 2 days. (I've uploaded some of the more blatant ones, and more are coming later)

PLEASE, Bungie, don't throw this back in our face and tell us it's our fault. The first step to fixing a problem is to admit it's there.
PLEASE admit the hit-detection's a little off...even if it can't be fixed.

And don't even get me started on the Double Reload glitch...

By the way, I know this has been discussed, but it's so infuriating that I needed to vent a little. I was really pissed when I read that "sack up, it requires more skill" crap. Sorry.

OM NOM NOM

HALO 2>HALO CE
ARBITER>MASTER CHIEF
I'm sorry, but its true.

THANK YOU. This is very true and needs to be fixed. Its happened to me on several occasions in both live and LAN.

I always have sucked with a sniper rifle so it doesn't affect me too much. Sorry for you who use them though, I haven't really done much with them in 3 yet, I figured it was just me.

Another funny side note: if anyone has seen the halo 3 beta RvB episode, Griff I believe complains about not being able to hit anything with his sniper rifle, and sarge says that it isnt a bug and that he just sucks. Maybe it was a bug....

Bungie said this? Source?

If Bungie DID say this themselves, then I I just loss a lot of respect for them. How egotistical. "We make Halo, so kiss our asses and suck it up." It's also an idiotic statement. If you get screwed out of headshots, "skill" has not a damn thing to do with it. I don't care if it's a lag or not (and this has happened to me on off-line multi play as well), it's an issue, and it needs to be fixed. Either fix or or address the fact you can't fix it if that's the case. Glad to see a company caring so much about its players (sarcasm).

I don't suffer from insanity,
I enjoy every minute of it! :D

Here's hoping Bungie goes under, now that they don't have daddy Microsoft to protect them.

Yes I feel exactly the same as you do. It's like we tell them there's a flaw, and they are too big to admit it and just sugar coat it by saying it's 'harder to use'.

Honestly, I love Bungie and love Halo.
I just hate that a glitch was thrown back in our faces and outright denied.

It's in the weekly "What's Up-date".

It was in the weekly update, the latest one with all the resonses to player questions. And yes, that is a -blam!- ass egotistical thing to say and it pissed me off to hear it.

-A witty signature that can be placed on the bottom of all your forum posts.

While it wasn't the nicest way to say it, I still fail to see how he is wrong. This kind of thing did happen all the time in Halo 2, and a rediculously amount more in Halo when using XboxConnect. Also the Sniper rifle IS a lot harder to use now since they removed almost all auto-aim from it.

"So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

-Gandalf

The sniper is my third most used weapon (next to the AR and my fist) and I really don't see it happen too often. Yes I do see that occasionally something strange happens and I have seen pics and clips of it happening, but I really don't think it happens that often.

Has nothing to do with auto-aim. If you try to pop and shoot off a wall the shot sometimes(a lot) doesn't register. It can be fixed, but prolly won't be.

Yes it is. I see very few people complaining about it actually. I have seen vids of injutice done by "lacking sniper-shots", but it's nothing to quibble over. The sniper does take skill this time around. He wasn't lying.

"Armageddon, the end is only the beginning"
"This is the way the world end not with a bang but a whisper"

this is really weird, so many ppl are complaining about the sniper but, i myself have had no problem with it and none of my friends have either, i play LAN all the time and one friend plays LIVE but none of us have a problem for this

Legends dont die, they respawn.

I watched the dvd documentry disk and saw the people who tested the game and obviously if they couldn't see this they need to do a better job of testing the product. Not that they did a bad job. One guy said he had thousands of errors in the game that he needed to fix cuz everyday they found more and more.

Aiming isn't the problem. It's the hits not registering when clearly they should. like the creator of this thread said before, I've played local games and still had shots not registering so this is NOT a internet connection/lag issue.

  • 10.07.2007 9:24 PM PST

I just thought of something very intruiging. What if it WAS a glitch, but not ALL the discs had it? Like, it was a disc problem and a set amount had it, but not the rest? That might be harder for Bungie to fix than if they all had it and you just had to download the patch. idk, does this sound plausible?

Maybe they can't fix it, and they don't want neg publicity for the game so they deny it.

I have noticed this as well Ver7ig0. I actually turned quickly around once fired without the scope and much to my surprise killed the person. I was left wondering how cause it looked a little off, it didn't feel right. Sure enough I look back and the footage and it was a nice shot but it was off by a hair, that pissed me off. It has happened a few times. Its not that big of a deal but it is kind of annoying....oh well.

Wanna see the best Halo 2 and 3 Player Ever?
G/T : StolenGhost

i've played close to a 150 games on live already and i have not noticed this
please understand that this is a video game, if you have bad luck with the sniper, put it down.
if i haven't missed a single shot because of your "hit detection" problem then its your problem
the autoaim is not set as high as you may have been used to so deal with it, zipping the reticule across someones head should not yeild a kill
also, just because you see him as there doesn't mean that he is actually there, there is always fudge room
stop shooting around corners or at people near corners, that changed a lot.

please stop blaming bungie for an error that not everyone experiences, its a videogame and there will be inconsistencies
but bungie did playtest the -blam!- out of this game so don't you think they would have fixed a major sniper problem?

please dont waste your time flaming because this was intended as a comment not a conversation starter, i wont even read your reply

excuse me but did that 1 guy just say that since they wont fix the glitch then skill means nothing. you have to be kidding me you are concerned about skill in a video game ? you should instead be concerned about skill in a job trait cus last i checked very few people in this world make a living off of video game skill and the fact that you actually care about said skill makes me chuckle

That would be terrible business practice and I will never buy anything bungie related again. On the other hand I would still like to be their slave. lol

My roommate and I agreed with the OP on this one. When the Q&A (read: Bungie answering a couple questions they felt like answering) came out, we saw that and were blown away by the arrogance. They used to be all about the gamer, and tried to meet our demands. Now they're just like, "Well, we made Halo 3, and it's the best thing ever, so what it it's loaded with glitches, deal". I mean, screw you too guy. I paid for your product, and I expect some customer service in the form of fixing what's broken.
