EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THE SKULLS
_________________________________________________
To all the Newbs Who are just learning and have questions!!

(*whenever I refer to "the thread" I am referring to the HIDDEN ITEM FOUND!!!! thread, which is where this information was all originally posted. That thread is now INCREDIBLY long, and it is difficult to wade through. Hopefully this helps.*)

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
It all started with Pirate177 posting that he had found an easteregg on the Outskirts level. He found a secret area that contained a Binocular-Scope, 4 grenades, and an oddball skull that, when picked up, made his HUD and weapons dissapear from view. It was a very significant find, and there was a lot of excitement surrounding this new secret. What did it mean? Could it unlock anything? How do I find it? Eventually many people started posting about many different questions they had. Some people believed that the Blind Mode created by this skull was for Red vs. Blue, the popular internet halo series. Later the thread as a whole decided that this was not true, because Red vs. Blue uses multiplayer to film their movies and this new blindness didnt seem to carry over to multiplayer. Later on people started to believe that Pirate117 is actually a Bungie employee, and he was just pushing us in the right direction. This is unsubstansiated, and while it could be true, there is certainly no proof that he is. Regardless, there was still this secret item and the items near it.

The thread came to the conclusion that the other items, besides the skull itself, were clues. They mean "Search for Skulls." Search, coming from the scope, 4 or for, and the skull. (As a side note, the scope, when looked through, has an 8 instead of a crosshair at the 10x magnification. While this may not be significant, some believe it is important to the skull search.) Pretty soon information on other skulls began to trickle in. As more and more people began to extensively explore all of the levels in Halo 2, more and more skulls were found. Of course there was the occasional person that decided to post a fake skull, but some people began to compile lists of the skulls and they began to confirm them themselves. Eventually the fake skulls were weeded out, and we find ourselves here.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO LOOKING FOR THE SKULLS
Each skull seems to affect a different aspect of the game, some make gameplay more difficult, some make it easier, and others make it just plain fun. The problem, however, is that most of the skulls are found in the Legendary difficulty. This makes it very difficult for many players to get to the skulls. The skulls can be found individually, or they can be combined together. Each skulls effect will stack with the effects of other skulls, regardless of whether or not you drop the original skull.

Each skulls effect will last for either, a very long period of time, or until the player turns off his or her XBOX, at which point the powers or disabilities are erased, and the player must find the skulls again to reactivate them.

So far there have been 17 reported skulls, and only 15 of these have been confirmed. Many believe that there are only 15 skulls, one for each level in Halo 2. It is not known as to whether or not the skulls actually have a larger meaning or purpose, nor do we know whether or not there are more than 15 skulls.

There is no known reward for collecting all of the skulls, nor is there anyone who I am aware of that has completed the game with all of the skulls.

Key:
(#) Level Found < (Apparent Original Finder) based on who posted it first in the thread, HIDDEN ITEM FOUND!!!! There are lots of posts to go through, and some finders I couldn’t find, it is also possible that I made some errors. Feel free to post any corrections. >

1) Cairo Station < bugaboo >
Directions: In the large room after the armory, you need to use a duck-jump to get onto a light fixture on the right wall (right of the room when u enter) and then jump from there onto the higher area. There is a series of diagonal beams. Walk up one near to the end of it and use it to duck-jump onto one of the rails. You can fall between the rails, so be careful. Once on the rail, walk down it until you can jump onto the highest platform. Then bash the trashcan.

Word: Thunderstorm
Effect: All Grunts and Elites have white-armor, and the stats of their white-armored counterparts

2) Outskirts < Pirate 117 >
Directions: At the beginning of Outskirts jump on top of the light on top of the door with a crouch jump, then jump to the left platform. Turn to your left and go down the long dark corridor and pick up the skull; it will say blind and your screen will flash black for a while. In this mode you can’t see your weapon, body, shields, ammo, or radar.
Difficulty: Any
Word: Blind
Effect: No HUD or weapons on screen
Status: Confirmed

3) Metropolis < Anti Elite >
Directions: Right after u get out of the sewers (Tunnel), there is a big area and 2 ghosts, kill every thing first, then go to the middle of it where u see a arc that leads up onto a building, throw a grenade down and jump by it to get enough height to start climbing it. When you get to the top take a left and hug the wall around the structure and the skull will be there, it says, "catch".
Difficulty: Legendary
Word: Catch
Effect: Allies throw many grenades, with great accuracy
Status: Confirmed

4) The Arbiter < Twelve Large >
Directions: The very first time you get a banshee, fly down, below you is a large beamlike structure (not to be confused with the one directly below you that turns and goes vertical) running from the arm of the station you just came out of to one exactly like it on the side opposite. Below this structure are 3 cylinders hanging down, with cylinders of light shooting out of the bottom that look like they are what keeps the station floating. If my explanation is too vague, they are the absolute lowest parts of the station. Now go to the middle engine and land on the top part of it. This and the other engines connect to the large structure mentioned earlier. The tops of the engines come up to meet the structure at an angle, where this angle is under the connecting structure and coming up to meet it, there is a place to walk (like being under a bridge). Beneath one side you will see the six grunts with the skull in the middle.

Effect: Enemies will explode like a plasma grenade when shot in the face, even when dead. This will not work against a shielded enemy until their shields are down.

5) Oracle < >
Directions: After getting off the long elevator ride, you will come to a room where convent and flood are fighting below you, and you have to break the glass to get to where they are fighting. If you crouch/grenade jump up on the opposite side of where you came down, the skull should be up there.

Word: Famine
Effect: Set weapon pick-ups have only half full ammo. Works with both Human and Covenant set weapons.
Status: Confirmed

6) Delta Halo < Twelve Large >
Directions: I found another one in the ruins on Delta Halo. Current mission op: Push through Covenant-held ruins. When you first come out of the big building and see the turret and 5/6 shield up on the wall there is a wall over to the left hand side with the two grunt turrets on it, the big block and door are at the far end of that wall... In the room that the block is *ahem* blocking there are two dead grunts and two plasma swords... There's a door being blocked by a rock. Jump on the rock. Then jump on the ledge that's located above the blocked doorway. Turn left and jump up on another ledge. Grenade jump up to where you'll find Two Red Elites - That become cloaked, surrounding a skull. Pick it up, and it reads Envy. For the ENVY skull, you must play it on Legendary, it makes it so the when you press the white button, you cloak. This cloaking only lasts a few seconds (just like the Arbiter's armor) and can be used on any level and any difficulty after you get it.
Difficulty: Legendary
Word: Envy
Effect: Cloak instead of Flashlight, 5 second cloak with 10 second recharge. (Apparently there is a difference in the amount of time you can cloak depending on what difficulty you are playing.)

7) Regret < Sathe Athear >
Directions: Just after you get off the gondola, and go in the structure, there is a big block of stone, jump on that an you can get on a ledge that leads out to the covenant turrets, facing back towards the structure, jump up another level around the right side of the structure, It is pretty straight lined from here. You should find the Skull on a ledge when you make it around. I just got the Skull in Regret, this time in legendary mode. Instead of the "Blind" mode, I got "Assassins". No visible change to the HUD, BUT all enemies become invisible, ALL ENEMIES, including drones and Jackals.

Effect: All enemies in game are permanently cloaked, AI cannot see them and so are no help at all.

8) Sacred Icon < Hell3ringer >
Directions: Its were the brutes drop u off to disable the shield. ON LEGENDARY its after the part where thers a big flying thing with shields next to a cliff. not the gondola type thing, its after that. once u go back down inside there will be a stack of boxes seemingly put there so u can get up easily. just jump up and go inside the tunnel on the far left where a dead bodiy is accompanies by a skull. When you pick it up it says MYTHIC.

9) Quarantine Zone < >
Directions: From the start of the level, look to your left for an elite. To the left of the elite there is a tunnel. Head into the tunnel and go straight until you reach a cliff. Now turn left and follow the cliff till you reach a rock wall. To the right of the wall and the cliff is a narrow passage; skull is at the end of that passage.

Status: Confirmed

10) Gravemind < ParaplegicNinja >
Directions: So far, this only works on Legendary. Fight all the way through the Covenant city until you reach the outdoors. As soon as you are outside, stick to the right-hand side and walk along the wall. You should see a Covenant wall thingy with a red rail on it. Jump up to it (crouch jump helps) and at the end there is the Anger skull in a small grav-lift.

Effect: Unknown (Note: You are able to hold the skull as a third weapon.)

11) Uprising < Nvua Kaita >
Directions: After the outdoor area with all the ghosts, there is an L-Shaped room that is seen throughout the level. It is right before the "armory" room. Grenade jump up to the rafters and its up there.
edit- well it was before the armory because I went in from the other side. Anyway the area is like two outdoor sections connected, one has two wraiths which is the way i entered the inside area.. the inside area is like L-Room, Armory, L-Room.
Difficulty: Legendary
Word: Ghost
Effect: Unknown
Status: Confirmed

12) High Charity < Unlimited >
Directions: On the final grav-lift on "high Charity", look up. A skull will pass you by. Hold X as it passes you to receive the status (the Skull isn't there on Easy, but Legendary).
Difficulty: Legendary
Word: Iron
Effect: Allies immune to melee
Status: Confirmed

13) The Great Journey < Ky >
Directions: SGT Johnson will pilot the scarab and shoot at a building I am calling the Control Tower. If you take a banshee to the tower you will notice that, aside from where spires jut out of it, it has a round slope all the way around. If you take the banshee right up to the slope and as high as you can go, you can almost get over it. Here you must jump out of your banshee to land on the less steep part of the slope. If you turn your banshee to the side or all the way around, it may make it easier to land on the less steep part. Also, try to have your banshee land on a platform below, so you can use it to get back. Once you are on the slope, climb the rest of the way up it. If you are on the right of the door, then you have to jump onto the ledge next to the main part of the building, and then walk up a steep part in the direction of the door. Walk up that, then around and down on the other side. On this side (left of the door from scarab's perspective) you can walk onto the hills and grass. You will notice several angled spires, some of which connect to the building. You must climb the one that is directly opposite the door you would use to enter the tower. It's steep but you can walk up it. I suggest jumping while walking to speed up the process. At the top is a skull, which gives you the "black eye" effect - you only recover shields by meleeing enemies. This is only found on legendary. Reverse the process to get back to your banshee (hopefully) or just jump off a cliff and the effect will stay with you.
Difficulty: Legendary
Word: Black Eye
Effect: Shield won’t regen, when you melee someone you get energy power back, so if you melee someone you get a little bit of shield. So you can get a bit at a time all the way to overshield!

14) Amoury < >
Directions: Just stay up top and let the cheif guy keep yelling at you to get in the elevator until he says "would it help if i said please?" then jump in and go to the monorail thing and face the side opposite from which u enter and the skull is on some boxes in the next room. just stand against the glass and press x.
Difficulty: Any
Word: This skull is unique, no word appears when it is found.
Effect: The effect is unknown, however it might make enemies weaker.
Status: Confirmed

_________________________________________________

NOTE: The infinite skull could very well be the 15th skull. It has been found by HoMenace, but when he went to confirm its existence he could not find the skull again. Currently some believe that this skull can only be found if certain prerequisites have been filled or if certain things have been done in the game. Others believe that this skull doesnt exist at all, which is why I placed it in its own section.

15) Quarantine Zone < >
Get the tank and there are holes in the level along the walls and take a tank to a certin one (not sure if it will work with others) but the one i used had a cliff right above it and i backed the tank against it and up the hill backwards and got out and got on it and jumped up then had to granade jump to the next part and from there u can go anywhere and its on the opposite side of the level.

THEORIES SURROUNDING THE SKULLS

DISCLAIMER!: NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE WHAT THE SKULLS DO! THE THEORIES BELOW ARE JUST THAT, THEORIES! I am sorry if something below turns out to be false! Don't come whining to me, I warned you!

No one really knows what the skulls were placed in the game for, but there seem to be two main points of view on what the skulls do.

One group believes that the skulls are just there to alter the gameplay of Halo 2 by giving the player powers or disabilities that make the game more fun or harder, depending on which skulls you find and pick up.

The other group believes that the Skulls are there as an obstacle to an even bigger secret. This group believes that they need to collect all of the skulls in a certain sequence and then complete the game with all of the skulls in their possession. As for the order of the skulls, there is an acronym on the back of the Halo 2 soundtrack case that many believe is the key to unlocking the sequence that the skulls are supposed to be in.

EGATFIBGBCSIMAW

Envy
Ghost
Anger
Thunderstorm
Famine
I...?
Blind
Grunt birthday party
Black eye
Catch
Sputnik
Iron
Mythic
Assassins
W...?

The "I" could be the infinite skull, or perhaps some other skull that has yet to be found, and the "W" could stand for weaken or weakness, and is probably the Un-named skull. The only problem with this sequence is that there are 4 letters which could be filled by different skulls. I, A, B, and G so Assassins and Anger, Infinate and Iron, Blind and Black Eye, and Ghost and Grunt Birthday Party, could all be interchangeable with one another...

There are also some that feel that this acronym must first be unscrambled to form a word or two words which would then represent the TRUE sequence of skulls. In which case the Un-named skull may be just a space in between 2 words, and there could be yet another skull which must be found to fill the "W."

If you want to unscramble the acronym, go here: http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?

There is also speculation that the items near each skull, i.e. the grunts around the Birthday skull, the 8 in the scope or the 4 grenades near the blind skull, etc, may be clues as to what order they should be placed in. This is however, just a speculation.

Some sites have sprung up concerning the skulls, many of them created by people who posted in the HIDDEN ITEM FOUND!!! thread. Many cheat sites may also contain the information, but if it looks similar to whats said here, thats because it was taken straight from the HIDDEN ITEM FOUND!!! thread, where much of this information originated as well.

MY COMMENTS
Its late and i'm getting burnt out, I cant go on... My original post got deleted because i was being stupid and writing it in the post window, and somehow -blam!- internet explorer was not responding, and anyways, I dont know if this is as complete as it was before. At any rate, please feel free to add to this post if need be, so that the information here is more complete. Please only add relevant things. I tried to stay away from opinionating this information. If anyone wants to they can take info from here and repost it on following pages as well, that way most everyone can get a look at it. I hope this helps reduce the number of people asking the same questions over and over again and making threads longer than they need to be, and I hope it helps everyone that had a question!

SPECIAL THANKS
I would also like to say thank you to FrostyWolf for compiling some of the first lists, and confirming many of these skulls himself. Thank you also to Halo2 Achilles, I used a lot of your post to compile the list here.

And thanks to all of the posters in this board that helped find skulls and contribute their theries of course :-)

Bump if you need to, try to keep this thread near the top if possible.....

GOOD JOB JR.! lol Now about the skulls, HoMenace and everyone else seems to think that they are done, that they found all 15 skulls. Well, there is one left actually.

bravo on the new thread.

if someone iz trying to add speculation or theoriez about what the purpose or meaning of the skullz are, it would probably be a good idea to start a new thread on it. this thread would probably be best suited for a 'facts only' purpose.

Also Thank you for your appreciation everyone. Be sure to thank all the others who were involved in this process!

About the acronyms - someone said the the "No name" skull could be a space. Also, someone said it could be "Invisible", because you can't see its name.

I think, considering the "space" theory, that we need to write a sentence by collecting the skulls in a specific order, for exemple "BEAT ME", Blind-Envy-Assassins-thunderstorm-noname-mythic-envy ... lot of combos :s ...Maybe a sentence of 14 letters ? Or, 12 letters ? (8 on scope + 4 grenades ?) ... or, 17 letters ? (Sniper room -> 1-7 ...).

h3ll at this point use the original thread since that's pretty much what it's become and most of the reliable sourcez have abandon it anyway.
Original 'HIDDEN ITEM FOUND!!!!!!!!!' Thread

i have added the thread to my siggy and suggest if you are a skull freak you do the same to try and keep the thread alive without having to litter the thread by adding pointless bumps. i also put a poll there if you didn't notice so go vote!

again, thX on the gr8 work DeathPickle! and of course to all those that did much of the ground work!

there are only 14 levels the first one is just moive.... it thinke

This is true. The Heretic has no gameplay in it. The actual game starts with you going through training, and that's The Armory. That would mean that if there's one skull for each level, you guys have already found all of them. The only one I found was Iron. :(

Thanks again for the appreciation. To whoever asked about the noname skull being a space, I added that a while back, it is currently in the summary.
