Similar, but not identical model to earlier posters:

Make: Panasonic
Model: PT-47X54
Size: 47"
Xbox settings: Widescreen = ON, 480p = ON, 720p = OFF, 1080i = ON

AVIA reports an overscan of roughly, IIRC, 5% on each side, and I have minor cutoff problems in-game on the left side (can't tell if any of the cutoff is on the right, but it looks less severe even though AVIA reports equal overscan on all 4 sides of the screen).

For an indiciation of how much cutoff I'm seeing: In the single player campaign, I get "oading..." and "eckpoint" with a very small piece of the first letter showing as well, and in multiplayer the directional indicator arrow (for things like the bomb in assault) is basically completely invisible.

I do have widescreen problems but not of the same nature as mentioned in this post. When playing 2 player split screen with my Xbox set to widescreen TV the screen splits vertically. This gives me a disadvantage as it narrows my vision and I am unable to see anyone coming in from the left or right. I can fix this by changing the TV settings on the XBox dashboard to 4:3 ratio but this is an inconvenience as all other games I play with widescreen mode on (including single player Halo) in the next fix, can you please give us the option of choosing between horizontal and vertical split on two player mode.

Thanks

Please change the topic heading, it's misleading. We do not need "Help" with our set-ups, and it's not just a "Hud Issue". I guarantee that every one of our xboxes outputs the same thing for all 4 of the combinations below. The difference we see depends on how our displays are calibrated. HDTV's average 7 % overscan and the game should of been designed with that in mind.

480P: Disabled
Display Mode: Normal
Problems:
- None.

480P: Enabled
Display Mode: Normal
Problems:
- Less image content, image is zoomed, both the 3D scene & Hud.

480P: Disabled
Display Mode: Widescreen
Problems:
- Hud is stretched horizontally, Radar should be a circle, not oval.

480P: Enabled
Display Mode: Widescreen
Problems:
- Less image content, image is zoomed, both the 3D scene & Hud.
- Hud is stretched horizontally, Radar should be a circle, not oval.

Here's an image I created to show the 4 combinations. (480i means 480P is disabled)

Sup Halo 2 buddies,

I have a 57" HDTV (supports 480i through 1080i) Sony Projection TV model KP-57HW40 with many features like widescreen mode (16:9).

When I first played Halo 2 with Xbox settings of Widescreen=ON, 480p=ON, I notice the HUD cuttoff like most people. I thought it was a glith in the software but then I started to toggle through the WIDE MODE (Wide Zoom, Normal, Full, and Zoom ) option/feature of my TV. These options were easily access by my remote control. When I select Wide Zoom that gave me the full HUD and view and everything looked fine and less distored. If you have those option try changing them on your set. See below for the description of the changes each of my option makes. Hope this helps!

Wide Zoom- enlarges the 4:3 picture, while the upper and lower parts othe the picture are condensed to fit the 16:9 screen.

Normal- returns the 4:3 picture to its original size.

Full-Full Mode streches the 4:3 picture horizontally only, to fill the 16:9 screen.

Zoom Mode- enlarges the 4:3 picture horizontally and vertically to an equal aspect ratio that fills the 16:9 screen. Useful for watching Letterbox movies.

We are currently working to investigate the HUD display issues that some of you are experiencing. To help expedite our efforts, we'd like to get some additional information from people who have this problem.

If you are experiencing the HUD being cut off when playing Halo 2 in widescreen mode, here's what you can do to help:

1. Please reply to this post with the Make, Model and Size of your television set.

2. Please include information about your Xbox settings - i.e. Widescreen = ON, 480p = ON

Thanks for your help.

Panasonic 53" widescreen. Supports 480p, 720p, 1080i. All 3 enabled. Widescreen enabled. Monster HD kit.

Same issue. 480p cuts off the radar, grenades, and other stuff. Also, all HUD items are stretched, including reticule etc. Main menu is also stretched.

There is one unrelated issue to the progressive scan cropping, and that is that in widescreen the motion radar and targetting reticule is oval instead of circular. This is true for interlaced or progressive scan.

Just thought I would throw my problems in as well.

I have a 27" Samsung HDTV, 4:3, do not have the model number at this time. TV supports 480p and 1080i.

My XBox settings are: 480p on, 1080i on, and on Normal. I have tried other settings with widescreen and no difference. I am using the MS AV pack cables.

With 480p on, the left side of the HUD is cut off, like so many other peoples'. Cuts off the grenade indicator, some of the radar, and the messages that pop up on the screen. If it turn off 480p and run it in 480i, everything fits just fine, just a bit uglier. :) I didn't go through all 6 pages, don't want to sound like a broken record but I thought one more couldn't hurt.

Mitsubishi WS-65413
Size: 65"
Dashboard settings:
Widescreen
480P=Yes
1080i=Yes

Switching to 480i in the dashboard and restarting the Xbox (so the settings take effect) makes the left and right sides normal. Switch to 480p and I loose some screen real estate on the left and right sides of the screen.

No more codes. For now.

thanks guys, I think we've got it. The problem is indeed linked to 480p and a fix is being tested now. We hope to have more info very soon.

For those talking about the vertical split - this is by design. When playing split screen in widescreen mode, the game will split vertically instead of horizontally.

I also have some minor clipping problems, but not as bad as everyone else has said. I can see all HUD displays, but you can tell they are not well centered or the screen seems a litle zoomed-in. Specs:

XBOX: Widescreen enabled and also all HD displays enabled(480p, 720p, 1080i)

For those talking about the vertical split - this is by design. When playing split screen in widescreen mode, the game will split vertically instead of horizontally.

i understand that... but why on earth would it be that way by design and there not be the option to choose? i haven't seen one comment anywhere on any board or by any1 i kn0 that preferred it vertically. i have seen however, countless, countless comments to the contrary.

to quote myself...

*please, please, please, please... consider adding the option in a settings menu somewhere to allow the user to choose their own prefrence regarding vertical OR horizontal split-screen in all of the 2-player modes. i'm sure the thinking waz that in widescreen mode there iz plenty of space for a vertical (sided by side) split. there iz not and it iz really messing with me and my friendz. i feel az th0 i have blinderz on or tunnel vision. for 2-player mode we usually go back to halo 1 for vs. fun and have given up on co-op all together. i realize i could just switch on fullscreen/4:3 mode. but that kind of defeats the purpose az to why i bought a widescreen/16:9 tv and this widescreen/16:9 supported game.

one more please, and a thank you for your tireless efforts. the game iz golden despite these problemz. i'm sure you understand that th0.

TV = Sony WEGA KV-34XBR800 CRT HDTV. I have lifted the following from another user's post because I am having the exact same issues:
*******************
Problems:

1. No autodetect of widescreen.

2. Consequently, I must manually adjust TV to "full mode" which results in distortion (i.e. oval reticle) but no cut-off material.

3. If I run in any other widescreen mode (i.e. wide zoom or zoom), material is cut-off.
*******************
I have dashboard set to WIDESCREEN and have ENABLED 480p / 720p / 1080i. When I run Ninja Gaiden with the same settings above I have to set my TV to "full mode" but there is no distortion as the output is widescreen output. Thanks in advance for your dilligence.

I am also have the "overscan" issue with my tv set.

1. TV Mitsubishi WS-65413 This is a 65" CRT HDTV rear projection widescreen

2. Video Mode=Widescreen

3. 480p=on 720p=off 180i=on

the only way to veiw the entire image is to turn off 480p. changeing the screen type has no effect i.e setting to normal or letterbox Thank You for looking in to this problem!
