Bungie, Its time to tone down the difficulty of end game content. Your alienating the majority of your player base.

Bungie is terrible at finding the balance between a challenging, rewarding, end-game activity that will give a sense of accomplishment (note: I did NOT say easy) and ridiculously frustrating, beat your head against a wall impossibility to the vast majority of the player base. Pantheon, Legend Onslaught and Zero Hour alienates and frustrates the VAST MAJORITY of the player base. Its not fun, and thats the second major problem. Games, at the end of the day are suppose to be fun. And constant deaths and wiping and frustration are NOT fun. Say "get-good" all you want, but if this becomes the rule for future content, there will be a mass exodus of the player-base. I have soooooo many long-time, dedicated friends and clan-mates that hate this and have left the game. Please, please for the love of God Bungie, please find a better balance between a challenging, end-game content and the very un-fun, soul-crushing, frustrating mess you are currently promoting.

  • The problem is Bungie took the only vertical progression system in the game and effectively made it useless with power level deltas (Effective maximum power). The only progression of the game now is horizontal in nature by gear farming (Weapons rolls & stat sheets), and through player skill levels. A lot of you who have posted in opposition here fit into the branch of higher skilled players, and that's perfectly fine, fellow 2%-er right back at you, but you're all wrong and OP is right here, even I can connect the dots as to why this has been a big problem for the game this year. Power creep this, power creep that, sure, I can agree that players have been getting stronger since Forsaken, but why was the solution to effectively destroy the one last vertical progression system of the game? Understand, many of the lower skilled players who engage with the game never touch a raid, never do high level nightfalls, and even legend content is a stretch. So they see exotic MISSION, and think, sure this is something I can do. In the old days being underpowered meant you were at a disadvantage, but if it was too tough, just go do something else, get some more power levels, get more XP, and then match the power of the activity and you'll have a much better shot at clearing it. So these players had the liberty of spending more time to get their power levels up to become more powerful than the combatants to curb some of the skill deficit they possessed and complete the same high level activities. Please tell me how this affected YOUR "challenge" in any way, shape, or form. It doesn't, you have just as much capability to play this in reverse under the old system, underequip and underpower yourself, hell there was even a triumph in Warlord's Ruin to do so with your weapons. The old system was actually much more "elective difficulty" than you thought, and it was much more beneficial for the community as a whole. If you still think this was a problem, then that's no longer a problem of the game being not "hard enough", that's just a problem of you being a condescending gatekeeping jerk. The short term solution would honestly be to just wipe out everything they did in Lightfall's now infamous "Bringing Challenge back to Destiny" blog as it pertains to level detlas, just put the game back at WQ for how power levels work, and then go back to the drawing board to make increases in difficulty be more focused on tuning the activity itself as a long term solution. Pantheon has shown us that Bungie is more than capable of tuning the fights to be harder through new boss attacks, adding in tougher mechanic based enemies (Tormentors - Hell, they have Lucent Hive available too!), and tweaking encounter mechanics. Why not just take that concept and run with it? Power levels are fine as is, hell, Fireteam Power is essentially going to nuke any remaining power level gatekeeping in the game outside of Contest mode, I'd much rather have a game that is "easier in general" to keep a much larger casual audience around versus what we have now where even veterans like myself are dropping the game because the endgame is just not fun anymore. Bungie wanted to tune down long range plinking and hiding in corners, hah! That's literally the ONLY play now.

  • "It's not suppose to be easy" "It's not suppose to be hard" no It's suppose to be fun. When you focus on one or the other just for the sake of making it easy or hard It's not fun. And honestly with pantheon I'd say it's just annoyingly difficult. Idk how switching between 3 loadouts between adclear and boss dps is suppose to be fun. To be honest though for pantheon it feels worse going through the previous weeks just to realize you can't make it through the last week just because 1 your team can't make it 2 the difficulty isn't tailored to their literal target audience 3 it's time gated or 4 you don't have the required setup to even be able to maximize whatever dps required. Like I usually do most of the hard content but I'm honestly getting tired of this because it's just so annoying. Like I don't even know how else to put it it's just plain irritating sometimes going through the content and having to deal with unknown variables considering the fact that you need 5 other teammates paired with difficulty that's designed for people that no life the game beyond the extend of your average no lifers. It's not an enjoyable experience. It's irritating feeling like your being forced to consider the fact that you may have to find the most toxic people in the community just to be able to consistently get through encounters in order to save the time you barely have instead of grabbing your literal friends and having a blast like we use to back when you could pull out the ethernwt cable on crota. Like seriously who are you making this for?

    • Some interesting points raised throughout this lively thread, from both sides of the debate. Trolls and card-carrying members 🤡 of the BDF notwithstanding, there is no ‘this way is best’ answer to any of it. This game has been mismanaged since D1Y1. The Sunset debacle and D2 Beta were major mismanagement milestones. As are F2P / enhanced artificial difficulty levels and hidden ‘throttling’ / ridiculous levels of RNG / and micro transactions. The game’s ageing wonky architecture and P2P connections, and spaghetti coding, make the game unplayable for many. Players: it depends on what type of player one is… PvE or PvP or a bit of both. Solo / occasional player or Clan warrior. Hobbyist or Full Time. Casual - for fun, or Hardcore - for $$$. Dedicated W or H or T, or a mix of all three. Retired or under-employed or on welfare. Etc… Or any mix or combination of any of the above. Friends Lists in D1 were thriving. Raids were a weekly event and done with gusto. The game was fun to play…with a regular bunch of buddies. It still had its issues…but the vibe was mostly positive. Then came the Sunset debacle…and D2 Beta - and everything changed. Friends Lists evaporated. Players left in droves…(me, too!)… Micro transactions ramped up…EverWorse store became front and centre…the overall vibe became negative…artificially enhanced RNG became evident…the system became overstressed due to PC/Xbox/PS inclusivity… Lightfail and Neomuna - 🧐 Upper tier MisManagement - ❌❌❌ Activision’s departure 🚨🚨🚨 Sony’s acquisition 🚨😱🚨 TFS 🚨🤔🚨 The future of Destiny??? IMHO: as a solo, casual, old tortoise who loves the game and just pootles about enjoying what’s left of the planets, doing mostly ‘vanilla’ stuff, with my basic vanilla builds, and not too bothered about chasing anything, I’m basically winding down my 10-year compact with Destiny. Witch Queen was very good. The recent uptick in improvements and Brave weapons were good…but, it seems, old bad RNG throttling habits are becoming evident once more…❌🤡❌ I’m in for TFS - to close out the story, however good or bad that might be?! Thereafter, we’ll see… FWIW: I would place D2 on life support mode…announce D3 in development. Install a warp drive game engine, supported by all of the latest technology and updates available. Install Dedicated Regional Servers. Consider a subscription model. Follow a lot of WarFrame’s winning ways, eg, in game player trading, fast pass option, etc… Anyhoo, that’s enough for now! 😁 TLDR: 🤫 Just my 2d worth. YMMV. Ease springs! 🫡

        • Bungie has been driving this game into the ground by listening to the “git gud” community and the streamers who literally play this game for a living. It’s not about fun. It’s about flex. These people don’t care for fun. They only care about seeking validation from others and feeling superior by flexing their “god roll” (idiotic concept), emblems, seals, titles, etc. Fun!? “Fun”, you say!? Yeah, that’s for the birds!

          • Right. I don’t know why all the no-life basement dwellers keep saying endgame has to be hard. It’s simply something to do after the end of the game. Fun should be the priority for endgame activities in video games imo.

Let's break it down Pantheon gives you nothing new, save for a title Legend onslaught doesn't give you anything onslaught, doesn't give you And zero hour gets you a guaranteed exotic So tldr, you're bad a want stuff for no effort

End game content is supposed to be difficult by definition Early and Midgame content is for learning and just playing Endgame is to prove you have mastered the game

              • Just wait. With Well being absolutely gutted into uselessness against ad waves - there will be a rise of complaints about content being that much harder because Bungie's level design is toddler-tier and they are too worthless and incompetent to do anything but rely on endless non-boss ad waves.

              • Just to be clear...since everyone here thinks I some sort of lazy scrub. I have completed multiple pantheon runs (including Oryx and Rulk), legendary onslaught, zero hour, all raids, multiple conquer titles/guided, and EVERY other dungeon, activity, or whatever this game has ever offered. I literally have thousands of game play hours in destiny and love this game. I am genuinely just trying to make it better for everyone. And YES I still believe the difficulty needs to be "toned down", Bungie constantly nerfs everything in the game, why not this?. Honestly I don't know why I should have expected anything different from this community other than toxic vitriol.

                • The people complaining about well being nerfed, the pro nerd people would say that encounters are built around well. Many of those encounters are similar to D1, when there was no well. My problem, which I don't know if anyone brings is that the games seems built for PC. It's easier on PC, world's first (and probably most of the runners up) are on PC. They have many advantages including not paying a subscription fee like us console players. Just sticking to the game though, it's faster, smoother, easier, and I just feel like no disadvantages at all. I'm just making points people, don't get all huffy and puffy.

                • player A works has a job and has little free time,. player B has nothing but free time to grind and learn raids and end game. the problem isn't with either player. it's bungie not balancing there game for both types of paying customers. ultimately it will be destiny's end game, bungie won't feel the pain until after the final shape launches and they tank. the ceo`s will most certainly wish they would of balanced the difficulty . in the end destiny has a high burn rate that is almost burnt out.

                  • Every piece of content in this game has been solo'd and you it easier? The biggest wall players have to deal with is nobody know how to read. You can't fix that with game design. At some point you just gotta get good. Like everything else on life.

I'm just past the big robot room by then ,granted never died once ,but isn't that what your supposed to kill them not die. hmm bungie really need to fix this hot mess.

I agree with some points of this post. I've tried to get friends to play this game and it's not only difficult for new lights but also effing' confusing. They could not get into the game at all ended up in The division 😂 As for "veterans" i guess i understand the appeal of more difficult content since we hit the pinnacle cap there's little else to do. Most won't go to vanguard ops. I'm not saying make the game super easy I'm just saying it should be a bit more accessible to new players.

                      • In the past, I've disagreed with posts like this because I love the challenge. Now that a lot of my friends stopped playing because it's too hard and frustrating for them, I have to agree. I have fewer friends to play with now, and it sucks because there's some great content this season.

I dont think they need to tone down the difficulty per se as long as they have options for lower skilled players...like they have the 10 & 50 wave Onslaught normal modes. Those are very accessible & offer nice rewards. Someone might not be able to run Zero Hour or Pantheon but they can do regular Nightfalls or strikes until they're better. You can get plenty of viable armor & weapons without running any raids or legend content. It would be nice if they added some practice environments (or something) for players to be able to learn the mechanics of things, try out different builds, practice DPS. I know you can do all of that by basically running an encounter but it would be more efficient for the player if you could practice it ahead of time. There are way too many garbage armor/weapons options too though & as a new player its not immediately obvious, at least it wasnt for me, that what I was using wasnt going to work for what I was trying to do.

                      • Legend onslaught isn't even that hard... Pantheon is intentionally hard, the first week is actually very easy. Zero hour normal mode isn't all that bad. Stating the vast majority agree with you is weird, did you conduct a poll or something?

                      • Those arguing to leave things as they are or make it even harder will regret their stance eventually. If players keep on leaving and new lights can't get going then the game will die as Bungie won't keep the lights on for a small group of hardcore players, they need to be profitable.
